I Love Carson City's President Day Weekend Summary: Feb. 14-16

Where to start? This weekend is chock-full of options. The local 4-H club is hosting their annual Fabric and Rummage Sale at Fuji Park. The Annual Feast of Chocolate, hosted by AAUW, is Saturday afternoon at the Plaza Event Center. The Vagina Monologues and One Billion Rising are both raising awareness this V-Day weekend for women’s issues.

Outdoors you have your choice of bike rides with the Alta Alpina Cycling Club, a bird walk with the Lahontan Audubon Society, a 5/10K at Prison Hill, a guided trek at Washoe Lake State Park, or the ‘Devil Made Me Do It’ Pub Crawl in Virginia City. If you need a dog to go hiking with, check out the Be My Valentine Adoption Event at PetsMart. If you just want to help out some dogs, the My Bloody Valentine Roller Derby Scrimmage on Sunday is raising funds and gathering supplies for local homeless pets.

Shane Dwight is performing at Carson Station and 3/17 is at the Brewery Arts Center for special Valentine’s Day shows. Hindsight plays at Casino Fandango and the Remains are rockin’ the 11th Frame Lounge at Carson Lanes. The Carson Cigar Co. is hosting Cheese the Knife and offering a special Truffle and Chocolate Beer Pairing. Have a great weekend, Carson City!

Each year, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office hosts an open house event as a way to connect families, deputies, non-profits and more. This year the event takes place Saturday, May 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On the morning of Saturday, May 11, volunteers will fan out across the Truckee River watershed to collect and test water samples from creeks, streams, smaller lakes, and Lake Tahoe itself to take a “snapshot” of water quality at a single moment in time for this important source of drinking water and outdoor recreation.
