It’s Saint Patrick’s Day at the Good Times Pub, & there’s a big crowd. But there’s always a big crowd for the Pub Quiz night, which just happens to fall on March 19 this year. Suddenly there is a scream. One of the barmaids has found the body of Undine Thumb in the back hallway, crushed by kegs of green beer. It was murder!

It’s 1985, and real estate developer and “entrepreneur” Whit Wiley has just cut the ribbon opening the newest marvel in his shopping mall empire: the Carson Mall. Whit was to top the Forbes list of most rich and powerful men of 1985 — until he washed up in the mall fountain, strangled by his skinny tie.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The Nevada State Railroad Museum is holding train rides dedicated toward women’s suffrage on Saturday. Feeding Pets of the Homeless is hosting its 11th annual nationwide pet food and supply drive over the next three days, and there is plenty of live music for all to enjoy! Historic Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City, Nevada, is opening its doors once again for what it was meant to be — a performing arts venue. “Murder at the Gin Joint” premiers this August and is a murder mystery presented by the Piper’s Players.

Move over — or roll over — Agatha Christie, Lollipop Productions is about to unveil a mystery dinner show that spoofs old-fashioned whodunits, the medical profession, “female problems,” and theater folks!

When half the cast of “Murder on the Oriental Rug” bails out, the remaining performers are stuck playing all the roles. During the first act, you’ll meet a Shakespearean actor with a drinking problem, a washed-up former child star, a bimbo with a short memory, and a hapless costumer who finds herself onstage — playing a man.

The Carson City Elks recently donated $1,500 to the Carson City Senior Center's Meals on Wheels program. The money was made through its annual Murder Mystery Play. Jennifer Quashnick is the local Tahoe author of the Mountaingirl Mysteries series, in which Rachel Winters, a Lake Tahoe resident frequently accompanied by her dog Bella, finds herself embroiled in murder, mystery, and romance in the Tahoe Basin and beyond. The series begins with the Sierra Nevada Trail of Murder, where Rachel and Bella discover a murder victim along a local hiking trail. The series continues with Sierra Nevada River of Lies and Sierra Nevada Dangerous Developments.
