Supervisors to explore using redevelopment funds for balletsBy Sandi Hoover shoover@nevadaappeal.com The Carson City Board of Supervisors will consider at its Thursday meeting whether to authorize spending of $1,500 from the Redevelopment Authority's revolving fund to support the Sierra Nevada Ballet's Christmas Peanutcracker and $3,000 for Pinkerton Ballet Theatre's Annual Nutcracker Ballet.Supervisors must decide whether the expenses are needed to ensure the success of the redevelopment plan. The plan, which was adopted by the board, states that it is to "encourage and assist in providing people-oriented special events and promotional activities for residents and visitors of all age levels."Based on previous years, these long-standing events attract thousands to the downtown during times that are otherwise quiet and inactive, according to a report from the Office of Business Development.
