Fire damages mobile home in south Carson City
Submitted by admin on Tue, 08/16/2011 - 9:46pmCarson City firefighters put out a fire burning under and inside a mobile home this evening at the Seven Star Mobile Home Park on Koontz Lane.
The owner, Norman Leblanc, said he had been burning weeds outside his home earlier, and thought he had extinguished the fire, but evidently had not. The fire was able to get under the trailer and spread into the walls from there.

Lake Tahoe boat inspection finds 37 quagga mussels on vessel

Boat inspectors at the Spooner Lake inspection station prevented a boat with 37 quagga mussels from entering Lake Tahoe on Aug. 7. The boat had arrived from Lake Mead, a water body known to be infected with aquatic invasive species. This incident was the first evidence of quagga on a boat attempting to enter Lake Tahoe this year, according to officials at the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.

Our countryside is tinder dry, and it would only take a moment of carelessness, sparks from target shooting, illegal fireworks, a hot vehicle muffler on a dirt road, an abandoned campfire or a tossed cigarette to create a roaring inferno.

ANGEL LAKE, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports: The road is open, but there is still a LOT of snow around the lake. The lake is about 80% ice covered with some fishable water. Unfortunately, there is enough snow on the ice, you can't tell what is safe and what isn't. With this week's warm temps and some wind, next weekend may be a different story.

Burn permits available at Carson City Fire Department

An open burn period allows residents the chance to dispose of weeds and yard debris. For safety reasons, the fire department will again require residents to obtain permit before burning is allowed. Permits will be issued on a walk-in basis beginning March 21 at the following locations:

— The Fort Churchill Cooling Ponds, near Wabuska.
— Applicable open waters (Bass Pond, Beaver Slough, Crappie Pond, Hinkson Slough, North Pond and the Walker River), all on the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area (MVWMA), near Yerington.
All of the waters listed above will close on Sept. 30. If you are interested in fishing at any of those waters on Opening Day, here is some miscellaneous information:

Permits available for open burning in Carson City

The purpose of the open burn period is to provide residents an opportunity to dispose of accumulated weeds and yard debris, according to Carson City fire officials.
For safety reasons, a burn permit with a valid permit number will be required before burning will be allowed. Permit applications can be obtained at the following Carson CIty fire station locations:

" This is a beautiful neighborhood park. Today, our members got their hands dirty improving this park for the neighbors," Pisiewski said.
Carson City BLM office: Statewide public land fire restrictions begin July 16

Because of this, the Bureau of Land Management Carson City District Office has announced plans to begin statewide fire restrictions on public lands beginning Friday, July 16.
Eagle Scout project benefits Fritsch

Through syncopated rhythm, men young and old brought their down shovels and hoes onto the weeds, effectively cutting them off from existence. On the other side of the school grounds, women and children were picking up trash, repairing the track circle and supplying everyone with an unconditional amount of pizza and water.
This event was an Eagle Scout Project headed by David McMasters on June 22 to improve Fritsch Elementary School’s track and playground for generations to come.

Weed Track and Attack

They will learn also about the wet meadow environment of Riverview park and will learn to identify several weeds that are so harmful to the environment that Nevada lawmakers have labeled them "noxious". Come learn more about your park and have fun learning technology. Registration is limited to the first 30 registrants. All ages welcome.
