Affordable and transitional housing is currently under discussion by the Carson City Board of Supervisors. The community is invited to express their thoughts about this at the monthly Walkabout, hosted by Carson City Supervisor, Ward 1, Karen Abowd, Friday, Feb. 16 at Mills Park.

“This is a wonderful time of year, so while we tend to focus on that, the business of governing continues,” Abowd said. “I still want to hear from community members their ideas, concerns and solutions for creating a better Carson City as we prepare to head into the new year.”

“The hot topic right now is the golf course, so I presume folks might want to talk about that,” Abowd said. “But I am open to discussing whatever my constituents find important.”

Retired Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi has declared his candidacy for Carson City Supervisor Ward 1 after current supervisor Karen Abowd announced she won’t seek a third term.

After serving 7 years and approaching the completion of 2 terms in office as Ward 1 Carson City Supervisor, Karen Abowd announced Friday that she will not seek another term.

The monthly Walkabout hosted by Karen Abowd, Carson City Supervisor Ward 1, takes place Friday, Aug. 18 at Mills Park. The is the community’s opportunity to bring concerns, solutions, questions and ideas for what they’d like to see take shape in Carson City’s future.

There will be plenty to talk about when Carson City Ward 1 Supervisor Karen Abowd hosts her monthly Walkabout, Friday, April 21, noon, at Mills Park.

“The announcement has gone out for artistic bike rack submissions,” she said, adding that the city budget will be the next hot topic. “If folks attended the public presentation, that can be discussed, and there is also concern about storm water rate increases.”

For those wanting to attend, meet at noon on the steps of Carson City Community Center. Take a sack lunch if desired.

Everyone is invited to attend, whether they reside in Ward 1 or not.

“This will be a great time to enjoy this wonderful, long-awaited sunshine,” Abowd. “I would also like to hear from people their storm-related concerns or about any damage that may not be on the radar and how their neighborhoods came through.”

Abowd also said that low-cost loans are being made available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for some damages not covered by homeowner’s insurance.

“This is a proposed gated, higher-end, 55 years and older senior community that allows folks to age in place going from owning their own homes in this development to living in zero lot line cottages to living in congregate care,” she said. “The vision for the care is the Eskaton model.

The inaugural Carson City Off-Road racing series, part of the Epic Rides mountain biking circuit, was more than successful.

It was epic.

Todd Sadow, co-founder and president of Epic Rides, said the race around the Nevada state capital exceeded expectations.

The community is invited to meet with Karen Abowd for the monthly Walkabout, Friday, June 17, to discuss an array of topics. The Walkabout is usually conducted the second Friday, but a scheduling conflict requires this month it be moved to the third Friday.

This event has taken place since her first election more than four years ago, as the way to keep Abowd in touch with the people of the community and to help her do a more effective job understanding and representing their ideas, issues and concerns.

Carson City leaders were sworn into office today at the Carson City Courthouse. Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell presided with the oath of office taken by District Court Judge James T. Russell and James E. Wilson Jr.
