From free concerts, to pet adoptions, to a new memorial, here are the list of events for 2018's Veterans Day.

Nevada Humane Society is proud to honor and thank dedicated service men and women by offering free pet adoptions for members of the military and their immediate families on Veterans Day, this Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018. Pets are available for adoption at either the Carson City shelter, at 549 Airport Road or the Reno shelter, 2825 Longley Lane.

CARSON CITY — In partnership with the History Channel and Charter, Spectrum Communications, Carson High School will host a ‘Take a Vet to School’ event in the school’s library, Wednesday in honor of Veteran’s Day.

Twisted Scizzors Salon continues to host Kutz for Heroes. Saturday had a great turnout with support from Adam Laxalt, many local vendors and veteran services.

The salon will provide free haircuts for veterans, activity duty and first responders, plus they can find help locating available services. Event runs through 3 p.m. today, Sunday, November 4.

In honor of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, the Nevada State Museum in Carson City will be hosting a special event: “Armistice: Commemorating the End of the Great War" on Saturday, Nov. 10.

An 88-year-old Carson City woman who has dedicated the past 15 years helping people throughout Northern Nevada learn English and become American citizens is among 10 finalists selected by CNN as a Top Hero for 2018.

Help support homeless veterans in the Carson City and Reno communities by donating underwear, gloves, socks, toilet paper, and reading glasses. Donation bins will be available from Nov. 4-11 at the following locations:

The Carson City Council of the Navy League of the United States will honor Veterans, past and present, at our November Meeting. We will also pay tribute to our MIA’s and POW’s and celebrate both the Navy and Marine Corps birthdays. Our speaker for the Special Veteran’s Day celebration will be Captain Robert Wiley, Retired, who was the first Master of the USNS Carson City, T-EPF 7.

Though no one knows for sure who said “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”, CHS teacher and Air Force veteran Tod Jennings, in his respectfully fun and playful manner, challenged CHS teacher and Navy veteran Daniel Ingram to a bet.

On October 13th, we did our annual ride to Virginia City. 17 riders showed up, a mix of veteran VC Riders, first-timers, and even a few folks new to Carson City! Homecoming Week is a fun-filled time at CHS with a frenzy of activities and celebrations to honor the high school and its students.

Dave Mencarelli will be headlining the Carson Comedy Club Oct 12-13. The Carson Comedy Club is located inside the Carson Nugget at 507 N. Carson Street. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Winners Club inside the Carson Nugget, or at www.ccnugget.com.

Welcome All Veterans Everywhere Inc. (WAVE) is eager to have the public attend the dedication ceremony for the new Veterans Appreciation Monument Oct 6 at noon. The monument honors the service and sacrifice of living and deceased veterans in Douglas County. It has been erected in front of the old courthouse on Eighth St. in Minden. WAVE has been working for over a year with county commissioners, local businesses and a host of volunteers to create the monument.

Uniformed first responders will be serving up tea, food and holiday goodwill at the Carson City Elks Lodge Fall Tea on Sunday, Oct. 14. All proceeds from the tea will go toward providing a proper Christmas to children in need through the Holiday with a Hero program.

Comedian Daniel Gabriel will be headlining the Carson Comedy Club inside the Carson Nugget in Carson City located at 507 N Carson St., Sept. 28-29. Show starts at 8 p.m.

The long awaited Disc Golf course for Carson City has its end in sight, and should be finished by the end of the year if all goes well.

One of veterans’ core values is “veterans helping veterans.”

For Western Nevada College’s Veterans Resource Center that also means not forgetting about veterans who are incarcerated.

The U.S. Department of Defense office recently recognized Nevada employers for their outstanding service and support to Silver State veterans with their Seven Seals Award.

A day of remembrance, heroism that won’t be forgotten, today is Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018. Among Carson City featured events include a presentation by Nevada’s Homeland Security Advisor at the Nevada State Library, a National Day of Service outdoor cleanup at Silver Saddle Ranch and a 9/11 Memorial Service at Mills Park. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association are excited to announce the Third Annual Rummage Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 and Sunday, Sept. 30 at Veterans Memorial Hall, located at the corner of Second and Curry streets in downtown Carson City.

CARSON CITY — The Fox Brewpub welcomes new brew master, Tim Mason, and new head chef, Tim Goodman, to the 10-year old English-style restaurant, with plans to bring new beer and food to the community staple.

Ground was broken Thursday, August 23 in a ceremony hosted by Welcome All Veterans Everywhere Inc,. also known as WAVE, for a monument honoring the service and sacrifice of living and deceased veterans in Douglas County. It will stand in front of the old courthouse on Eighth St. in Minden.

The Nevada State Library in Carson City will host its monthly Brown Bag Lunch Series meeting in September with guest Caleb Cage, Nevada's Chief Homeland Security advisor on Tuesday, Sept. 11 from noon to 1 p.m.

Veterans Healing Camp cordially invites the community to the 2nd Annual Concert Under the Stars on Saturday, August 25 from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Veterans Healing Camp property located at 1775 East US Highway 50 in Silver Springs.

The Sons & Daughters of Erin, are holding a benefit concert featuring Irish folk singer Seamus Kennedy on Monday, September 10 at Great Basin Brewery in Sparks.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. for those wanting to order food from the brewery menu (corned beef and cabbage will be available) and then concert will start at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $25 for non members and $20 for SADOE members and food is not included. Tickets may be purchased online through BrownPaperTickets.com or in person at Brewery in Sparks. There will be up to a $2 service fee per ticket on any credit card transaction.

Carson City Sheriff's Office Deputy Carl Howell, a nine-year veteran of the Carson City Sheriff's Office and a former United States Marine, was killed in the line of duty on this day, Aug. 15, 2015.

Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program and multiple agencies from around Carson City will hold a Veterans Resource Fair on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Carson Nugget.

Veterans and their caregivers will be provided with information on services and programs provided by area non-profits, advisory groups, government agencies, and the private sector. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Chautauquan Deke DiMarzo will portray Watchman Alex Coryell: Virginia City Police Department 1873 to 1891 at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

For the past four years, Angels With Flowers has donated floral arrangements to hospitals and senior care centers throughout the Carson City area. On Monday, the program, established by local florist Lori Morris, donated its 99th and 100th arrangement of 2018.

Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jim Primka has been selected by unanimous agreement to be promoted to the rank of lieutenant, filling the vacancy left by retired Capt. Jeff Melvin, Sheriff Ken Furlong announced Monday.
