VA Sierra Nevada to consider replacing, expanding Reno VA Medical Center

Looking at long term needs and a region that continues to grow, VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System will explore the potential to replace and expand the Reno VA Medical Center at a new location, Director Lisa Howard announced Thursday.

Veteran Nevada Journalist Dennis Myers dies after suffering stroke

Longtime Nevada journalist Dennis Myers suffered a massive stroke last week. He was admitted to Renown Regional Medical Center on Thursday, Aug. 22, and declared brain dead on Saturday, Aug 24. A registered organ donor, he was kept on life support until Monday, Aug. 26, when he was taken in for surgical recovery of his organs for donation.

Carson Comedy Club features hilarious stylings of Rodney Norman this weekend

This Friday and Saturday night will feature the hilarious comedy stylings of veteran performer Rodney Norman at the Carson Comedy Club at the Carson Nugget.

Rodney was the winner of the Rhode Island Comedy Festival and was also featured in the Boston Comedy Festival. Rodney is a former Marine with a BS degree in Philosophy. He’s been in the comedy business for 20 years and we are happy to have him on our stage.

Featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon will be Mary Liveratti, who served as AARP's Nevada state president for six years before retiring in 2018. She has served as a volunteer advocate on behalf of legislation impacting seniors. At the luncheon, she will review the AARP-advocated bills that successfully became law during the 80th session, as well as others that didn't cross the finish line, including those likely to reemerge during the 81st session in 2021.

Carson City Elks grilling demonstration by Chef Sparky raises money for vets

On Saturday, July 6 the Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 held a Veteran’s fundraiser grilling demonstration with Chef Sparky. Al Bergstrom, Elks officer and a veteran, chaired the event. Sean “Sparky” Walsh of 9 Dots Creative Kitchens, also a veteran, donated his time when presenting his skills and tips on how to grill various meats successfully. Donations were accepted for our area veterans programs.

Carson City Memorial Day Service ceremony photos

Paying tribute to those who have died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, a Memorial Day ceremony was held at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City on Monday afternoon. The ceremony was hosted by the Memorial Day Flowers Foundation.

The Memorial Day Flowers Foundation is hosting a Memorial Day Service today, noon to 2 p.m. at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City.

Among the order of service was a noon Raising of the Colors. The service will feature a presentation of the Colors by the Carson City Division of US Naval Sea Cadets, the National Anthem, Invocation. At around 1 p.m. there will be the introduction of speakers, U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, Sen. Jacky Rosen and U.S. Congressman Mark Amodei followed by A Memorial Day Tribute by the High Desert Post 56 All Veteran Honor Guard, closing remarks and a Benediction.
