The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a repeal of Health Reform. Additionally, they passed budget cuts of $1.3 billion to existing funding for Community Health Centers (CHC’s).

Over the last 45 years, CHC’s have grown to provide primary care access to 20 million Americans. Study after study has shown that primary care in a CHC is less expensive and provides more reliable health outcomes than any other alternative for those with access challenges. Who is speaking for the needs of these patients?

Flu Vaccinations Offered to the Community for Free

Carson City Health and Human Services will hold three free vaccination clinics. A walk-in vaccination clinic will be at Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. Drive-through clinics will be held at Nevada National Guard, 244 Fairview Drive and East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts, Station 12, 3620 N. Sunridge Drive. A proclamation from Mayor Bob Crowell has proclaimed Oct. 16 is Community Flu Vaccination Day emphasizing the importance of vaccination as the best defense against flu and serves as a reminder that free influenza vaccinations will be offered to the community Saturday, Oct.

Carson City Flu Vaccination Day on Oct. 16

Saturday, Oct. 16 is Carson City Community Flu Vaccination Day, with vaccines offered to the community at no cost.
It is the seventh year for the program. Last year, there were 8,000 seasonal flu shots given and 21,000 H1N1 shots administered, health officials said.
Approximately 5,000 of the doses have been ordered and will be ready to administer on Oct. 16, said Susan Pintar, county health officer.
There will be three locations for the free community vaccination day, which will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are:
— Walk-through at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive

Join the Pooch Plunge for Carson City dog park expansion

Parks 4 Paws, a nonprofit community group to develop designated dogs parks in Carson City, in conjunction with Carson City Parks and Recreation Department and the community pool will sponsor the second annual Pooch Plunge on Saturday, Sept. 18. Last year’s event was very entertaining to watch. It was debatable who had more fun – the dogs or their owners.
