Nevada has earned a reputation over the years for ranking at the bottom of all the wrong health care lists. But Nevadans have grown increasingly frustrated over the past few days at the fact that the Silver State is both receiving and administering fewer doses per capita than almost every other state in the nation.

The Carson City and Quad-County region is experiencing a downward trend of COVID-19 hospitalizations since the start of the new year. However, while rates of transmission for children and teenagers have remained low since the pandemic began, new reporting shows a significant increase in minors contracting the virus, according to statistics.

For many, the knowledge that their own COVID-19 vaccinations are just around the corner has been hopeful. For others, however, the process of reserving a spot has been more than a little confusing.

The Carson City Senior Center is helping seniors living in the quad counties — Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey — age 70 and over in signing up for COVID-19 vaccinations.

With only four days remaining in Open Enrollment for 2021 health coverage, Nevada Health Link, the online health insurance marketplace operated by the state agency, the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange (Exchange), reminds Nevadans that all plans include access to COVID-19 related diagnosis and treatment, including COVID-19 vaccines when they become available.

Carson City Health and Human Services announced last week that vaccinations would be moving into Tier 2 beginning on Monday, Jan. 11 starting with educators and daycare providers.

MINDEN, Nev. — The Nevada COVID Task Force notified Douglas County that they are flagged for elevated COVID-19 disease transmission. Douglas County saw a spike in infection rates back in July, but then numbers declined for several months.

Health care workers, first responders and lab employees will be among the first in Nevada to receive the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available, according to a draft of the state’s vaccination plan released Monday.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey hosts it’s monthly meeting virtually via Zoom this Thursday October 8 from 9am-11am. Speakers will address three topics during this month’s meeting.

Carson City Health and Human Services will be combining drive-thru COVID-19 testing and flu vaccination events for Quad County residents in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. Residents can choose to receive a flu vaccine and/or a COVID-19 test at each event from the comfort of their vehicle. No appointments or reservations needed.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting that there have been two bats that have tested positive for rabies in Douglas County within the last two weeks. There was both animal and human exposure to these bats.

SPARKS, Nev. — The Nevada Department of Agriculture Animal Disease Laboratory has confirmed seven positive rabies cases in bats in Clark and Washoe Counties. Rabies is most commonly found in bats, and bat activity tends to peak between the months of May and October throughout Nevada.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting is scheduled to take place June 18 at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room at the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William St.

Feeding Pets of the Homeless welcomes DeBug Computer into its Donation Site community for pet food and supplies that will be delivered to local food banks, homeless shelters or homeless encampments. Donations may be taken to DeBug’s Carson City location at 1817 N. Stewart Street No. 30, or its Carson Valley location at 1560 U.S. Hwy 395 N. #C in Minden.

The University of Nevada, Reno Student Outreach Clinic will be hosting a Rural Outreach Clinic in Silver Springs this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Screenings and exams include blood pressure and hypertension checks, diabetes screenings, wellness exams, clinical evaluations, as well as child influenza vaccinations.

CARSON CITY — On Wednesday the Southern Nevada Health District reported the first person under investigation in Nevada for the 2019 novel coronavirus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be testing samples from the Southern Nevada resident who has been identified as a person under investigation. Currently, Nevada has no confirmed cases of novel coronavirus.

CHS has many opportunities for students to become a part of something bigger than just themselves, not that making a name for oneself is a bad idea or anything, but it is up to the student to step on up, come on in, and check them out. There are so many clubs on campus; there are Interact Club meetings at lunch in CHS teacher Erin Been’s room every Thursday, and Been also advises the Represent Club.

Carson City Aquatic Facility will hold its annual Pooch Plunge pool party this Saturday to help support Critter Fixer, Carson Animal Services Initiative’s low cost spay and neuter voucher program.

Carson City Health and Human Services is working with the Carson City School District to offer qualifying children all school-required vaccinations free of charge this Thursday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. at their clinic at 900 E. Long Street in Carson City, 775-887-2195.

The Senior Celebration held Thursday at the Casino Fandango Ballroom in Carson City went off without a hitch with festivities including raffles, a cake walk, live entertainment, medical screenings and more.

The 21st annual Senior Celebration is coming to the new ball room of the Casino Fandango in Carson City on Thursday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This event is Northern Nevada’s largest health and information fair in honor of Older American month. Senior Celebration is a free event with over 70 senior living experts who will be gathering to share information about their products and services.

Nevada Urban Indians is set to open a clinic in Carson City on Winnie Lane in the beginning of June, which will be offering substance abuse treatment programs, suicide prevention treatment, medicinal clinic days, and more.
