Steve Miller, Marty Stuart return to Tahoe on Aug. 24

Some people call him the space cowboy, some call him the gangster of love. Some people call him Maurice, as he speaks of the pompitous of love. He’s a joker, he’s a smoker and he’s headed back to Lake Tahoe. The Steve Miller Band will play Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys, joined by Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives.

Obituary: Valorie Jean Turley

Valorie Jean Turley left our presence Sunday, January 13, 2019. Valorie leaves three children, Jeremy Houston Sheldon, Jerrad Joseph Sheldon, of Carson City, Nevada; and Kourtny Jean Sheldon of Las Vegas, Nevada. As well as her three children, she leaves a daughter in law, Veronica (Mrs. Jeremy Sheldon) and beloved grandchildren,
Helen Bernice Sheldon and Garrett Sheldon.

Lake effect snow prompts Winter Weather Advisory for Carson City, Carson Valley region

This event was held on a snowy and cold Thursday evening, February 7, 2019. It has become an annual event enjoyed by all.

Muscle Powered Saturday Hike: Snowshoe Hike to Clear Creek Connector Trail

Please join us for a 5-mile round-trip snowshoe trek in the Clear Creek watershed area just three miles west of Carson City!

We will hike on the Clear Creek Connector Trail that intersects with the longer Clear Creek Trail. Both trails built by Carson Valley Trails Association. Meet 8:00 am at Hwy 50 Park-and-ride just west of Hwy 50/US395 interchange. We will carpool three miles to the Golf Course Drive parking area near the trailhead. Dogs are not allowed on this hike.

A man and woman were arrested Thursday afternoon on multiple felony offenses, including child abuse, drug possession and prohibited person possessing a firearm, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

Nevada Lore Series: Vikingsholm, Lake Tahoe’s not-so-secret Viking Castle

Vikingsholm, (literally meaning Viking island in the middle of a lake) named after its creator’s love of Scandinavia and viking culture, is a mansion on the shore of Emerald Bay, boasting 30 rooms and perfectly reconstructed viking treasures.

Lora Josephine Knight purchased the property where Vikingsholm now stands for $250,000 (which would be $3.6 million today) in 1928, and immediately began planning her creation. Lake Tahoe, she said, reminded her of the fjords and mountains of Scandinavia. Knight wanted to build a summer home that was reminiscent of the culture.

Tahoe Adventure Film Festival Feb. 23 in Minden

The Douglas High School Interact Club is bringing the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival to the Carson Valley on Saturday, February 23, 2019.

The festival will screen at the CVIC at 1604 Esmeralda Avenue in Minden with doors opening at 6 p.m. for the 7 p.m. showing. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students, and are available at the door. Refreshments will be available for purchase and a raffle will be held.

The Tahoe Adventure Film Festival is a fast-paced, high-energy evening of highlights from the best adventure sports films of the year.

Winter Storm Warning in effect now through Tuesday for Carson City area, region

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Carson City area and greater Reno-Tahoe region in effect now until 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Heavy snowfall is forecast for the greater Reno, Carson City and Minden area with total accumulation between 6-12 inches. Up to two feet of snow is forecast for elevations above 5,000 feet.

Carson City area school closure and delay report

Students in the Carson City School District will enjoy a snow day on their Monday off as district staff attend professional development today.

School district spokesman Dan Davis said the professional development day will start on schedule; although weather will continue to be monitored for hazardous travel conditions.
