CARSON CITY — In order to deliver on the objective of giving mountain bikers a true backcountry experience on world-class singletrack that challenges riders as much as it inspires and rewards, and allowing for extra snowmelt time in a potentially record-setting Sierra Nevada winter, Epic Rides announced a date change of the Carson City Off-Road from June 14-16 to June 28-30.

No pretender, Jackson Browne returns to Tahoe on Aug. 10. An Evening with Jackson Browne will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys. Browne last appeared at Lake Tahoe on a stormy night in 2015.

UPDATE: The Subaru, Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers will be leading an Awareness Workshop at the Carson City Community Center in the Bonanza Room tonight. Supposedly, spring is less than two weeks away. As I sit here looking at the snow on the mountains and in the yard, I’m finding it hard to gear up my brain to think spring gardening thoughts. In some years, daffodils and forsythias would already be blooming. Instead, these cheery harbingers of spring have been delayed by lingering snow.

CARSON CITY — The Carson Nugget Casino Hotel celebrates its 65th anniversary with the grand opening of its new restaurant Angelina’s Bistro, a birthday cake and champagne toast, and the premiere of Casino Boss, episode 2 on Tuesday, March 12, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson Street.

Today has earned a happy dance, because there will be an extra hour of daylight with which to enjoy the outdoors. Just remember to set your alarms so you aren't an hour late for work Monday!

CARSON CITY — Carson Tahoe Health’s Board of Directors appointed Alan Garrett as the new Chief Executive Officer effective April 1, 2019, replacing Ed Epperson who retired Dec. 31, 2018. A seasoned healthcare executive with diverse experience and a progressive leadership style, Garrett will assume day-to-day control of the Carson Tahoe Health system.

Another storm system will move its way into the region Tuesday, bringing rain and gusty winds to Carson City and lower valley regions and heavy, wet snow to the Sierra through Thursday and possibly beyond, according to the National Weather Service.

CARSON CITY — Week 5 of the Nevada Legislature marks the quarter way point in the 2019 session. Up this week, a prohibition on implanting a microchip in another person and a license plate to support environmental conservation at Lake Tahoe. A bill would mandate an interim study of wildfires. A joint resolution to urge Congress to oppose the expansion of the United States Air Force into the Desert National Wildlife Refuge will be heard. Human trafficking legislation will be considered, and a ticket scalping measure will also be heard.
