I Love Carson City's Weekend Event Summary: June 6-7

Event Date:
June 6, 2015 (All day)
June 7, 2015 (All day)

First things first. Saturday afternoon could be expecting some wet weather, so be prepared. I can’t predict what events may be affected by it, or if the rain will even show up. No worries for you wine walkers, though, downtown will be hopping: rain, shine, or blizzard. Head over to Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery and wish them a happy fourth anniversary, Jeffery will be serving up one of his signature Sangrias. St. Peter’s Episcopal Church won best wine walk stop last month and will have live music. Don’t forget to spend some time inside Westside Pour House: ARTistically INKlined pop-up gallery returns and proves that tattoo artists are first, and foremost, artists.

  • Reno Tahoe International Film Festival – go to www.RTIFF.org for schedule and locations
  • Sierra Lutheran High School's 13th Annual Golf Classic at the Silver Oaks Golf Course (7am Check-in, Shotgun start at 8am; $125 for a single player or $400 for a team of four)

Friday, June 5: Things to do in Carson City

Event Date:
June 5, 2015 (All day)

I have a confession to make. I love Carson City. I’m fifth generation Nevadan, and have been in Carson since I was three years old. I created a Facebook page called ‘I Love Carson City’ almost three years ago because I was getting tired of hearing ‘nothing ever happens in Carson’ or worse ‘I would have gone to that if I had known about it.’ That is why I do what I do. I am a long time local. I love my valley: the people, the views, the restaurants, the parks, the bands and artists. Community is what community does. We are as great as we want to be. Support your local venues, artists, non-profits, and they can do wonders. Read my list of things to do: I follow almost every local Facebook page and check out over 30 websites weekly to keep it as up to date as possible.

So much is going on today that I don’t even know how to fit it in this introduction.
FRIDAY:

  • Monthly ‘Breakfast with Supervisor Brad’ Bonokowski at the Cracker Box (7am; open to Carson City residents, the coffee is on Brad)
  • Street Vibrations Spring Rally: Downtown Reno

Column: Prepare for changing weather conditions around Northern Nevada

The weather in northern Nevada can be unpredictable. A prime example are the conditions we faced during Street Vibrations. One week of nice warm days followed by one weekend of wet, cold and near winter like conditions.
Now would be a good time to start practicing our cold weather driving habits.

When the roads get wet and become frozen many hazards come into play. Our vehicles tend to behave differently during the winter as we are used to dry roadways which afford us plenty of traction when driving.

NHP: Traffic violations, accidents down during Street Vibrations motorcycle rally

The 2014 annual Street Vibrations motorcycle officially came to a close on Sunday Sept. 28. Organizers expected between 50,000 and 100,000 participants. We do have a definitive number of participants but know that there was a phenomenal increase in highway traffic. Over the 4-day event that lasted from Thursday through Sunday, local residents saw an influx of motorcycle riders from all over the U.S.

Sheriff: Arrests down in Carson City over busy Street Vibrations weekend

Even with beefed up patrols in Carson City this weekend for the Street Vibrations motorcycle rally, riders were not involved in any significant arrests during its peak Friday, Saturday and early Sunday, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

“The crowds were happy, they were here for the events and nobody was here to cause a problem,” said Furlong. ”We had extraordinary patrol coverage everywhere this weekend and we were well prepared for any incident to come up and it never did.”

Street Vibrations fall motorcycle rally rolls through Northern Nevada's weather changes

With stops in Carson City, Reno, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City, riders decked out in ponchos and extra layers are making their way through the region, taking the long and short rides in poker runs, competitions, demonstrations and exhibitions.

Windy conditions and showers should keep smoke out of Carson City area

A band of rain showers is moving through northern California and approaching the King Fire Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Some light rain and higher humidity will likely decrease fire activity, meaning much less smoke, if any, will pass east of the Sierra Crest.

The 20th annual Street Vibrations 2014 motorcycle rally begins Wednesday

The 2014 Street Vibrations motorcycle rally begins Wednesday and runs through Sunday, Sept. 28. The primary events will be located in Reno and Sparks but other events are scheduled in Carson City, Virginia City and Lake Tahoe.

Public safety: Expect more motorcycles on road with run up to Street Vibrations

As summer gives way to fall we are seeing the last few weeks of motorcycle riding time for our recreational and fair weather riders. This has led to an increase in motorcycle activity around Carson City as the days are still warm. With Street Vibrations around the corner you will be sharing the roadway with even more riders.
