Sunday, June 4: Things to do around Carson City and beyond

Sunday funday has arrived. You’ve got one last chance to hear the rumble down at Battle Born Harley – Street Vibrations is coming to a close. With perfect weather for a picnic, a day at Mills Park makes perfect sense, and the Carson and Mills Park Railroad is up and running for the season. Head to Genoa for a lazy afternoon and enjoy live music by the Cash Only Band on the Genoa Bar Porch. Don Corleone is going to make you an offer you can’t refuse: The Godfather plays on the big screen at Galaxy Theater.

If you happen to be up very early on Saturday morning, you may just see some runners in the pre-dawn hours. The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, a 178 mile relay, passes through Carson City on its way to Virginia City. A huge congratulations goes out to the Class of 2017; the Carson High graduates will get their diplomas today. It’s wine walk weekend, so downtown will be hopping with sippers, strollers, and plenty of summer fun. Keep reading, and you’re sure to find something to make this weekend special.

Congratulations on surviving yet another school year, it's officially summer. Celebrate with a family outing to Bower's Mansion and stick around for some live music by Acoustic Solution. Watch out for motorcycles, now that the Spring Rally has rumbled into town, the bikes will be out in full force. Tonight, head over to the Fandango to enjoy the Trey Stone Trio or grab a Hawaiian shirt and join in the Beach Party Karaoke fun at Carson Lanes.

Motorcycles are on the way. The Street Vibrations Spring Rally is rumbling into town and Battle Born Harley on Research Way is the place to be. Every Thursday, house band the Smoken Rabbits, gets the place jumping, but this party won’t end until Sunday. The weather is finally cooperating, so karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar will be out on their patio – J and M Productions has thousands of songs to choose from. Jimmy Mallett at Living the Good Live will croon you into yesteryear with Rat Pack nostalgia.

Street Vibes and the Candy Dance are always the endcap to September. Arts and crafts take over the small hamlet of Genoa this weekend; get a jump on your holiday gift list. All the other corners of Northern Nevada are a playground for the thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts here to enjoy the bike rally. Battle Born Harley on Research Way offers a huge party without ever leaving the valley. Those two events are hardly all that Carson City and our neighboring counties have to offer, however. Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Thursday morning for a crash involving a motorcycle in the area of Highway 50 and Airport Road.

What a week. Granted, it was a short one, but school got out for the summer and we saw the weather go from a wintery chill to summery hot. Get your early primary vote in this afternoon, then stick around for the Artist Reception for the new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery upstairs in the Courthouse Building. Live music can be found at our bigger casinos, and a dj will keep you on the dance floor at Jimmy G’s, Alatte in the Carson Nugget, and Living the Good Life. Sassafras welcomes Bryan McPherson to the stage at 8 pm; you’ll want to get there earlier to take full advantage of their menu.

Camel and outhouse races, chili feed and fireworks among 2016 Virginia City attractions

Known for its Wild West traditions and old miner Comstock legends, Virginia City has its authentic Nevada history and quirky, outlandish special events that keep people from around the world coming back for more.

This year is no different as the town’s 2016 special events calendar includes fan favorites such as the International Camel and Ostrich Races, the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry and several parades as well as a brand new event, a western rodeo in September.

The Dog Days of Summer have hit town, so grab your favorite four-legged friend and have fun. CASI is hosting the ‘pooch plunge’ at the Carson Aquatic Center so that your pooches can beat this late September heat. Join the Nevada Humane Society at Lake Tahoe Brewing Company for the first annual ‘Brew-paw.’ Adoptable pets, a raffle, and more await. Don’t miss out on the downtown walk Sunday following coffee and mimosas at Adele’s. The ‘wag-n-walk’ will end up at the Visitor’s Center where you will be rewarded with a special pet tag.

It’s fireworks Friday here in Carson City. Harley Davidson is throwing a party for Street Vibrations with live music, vendors and more. Look to the sky around 8:30 p.m. to catch the fireworks show. Spruce up your resume and head to the Community Center. A job fair with more than 50 employers opens its doors to the public at 2 p.m. Go Big Blue! The varsity football game against Hug High School starts at 7 p.m. following the Homecoming Float Parade. Catch some live music at Living the Good Life or Westside Pour House. You’ll find a reason to laugh at Carson Comedy inside the Carson Nugget.

Grab a burger or hot dog at the Experimental Aircraft Association’s weekly luncheon and learn more about what this neat club does. Call the Gold Hill Hotel if you want to join them for dinner tonight; the weekly lecture series has resumed.

NHP: Two crashes involving three motorcycles reported Wednesday in Carson City area

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports two separate motorcycle crashes Wednesday afternoon involving three motorcycles south of Carson City.

NHP says via Twitter that a motorcycle crash happened just after 3 p.m. in the northbound lane of Highway 395 near Topsy Lane. Care Flight was called. The condition of the rider is unknown at this time.

Carson City Harley-Davidson hosts 3-day BikeFest during Street Vibrations with food, bands and fireworks

As Street Vibrations rolls between Reno and Virginia City into the weekend, Carson City Harley-Davidson will host its 15th annual BikeFest celebration beginning Thursday with a fireworks show Friday night, bands, and a concert by WAR on Saturday night.

After a few weeks dark, Jazz returns to Sassafras with hosts John and Cherie Shipley. Entertainer extraordinaire, Corky Bennett, can be found at Living the Good Life. Jump into the sud-soaked fray that is Geeks Who Drink Trivia at Lake Tahoe Brewing Company. And ladies can expect something special at the Ormsby Club and the Carson Cigar Company.

As summer wanes and turns into fall many of you will use these last days of warmth and sun to take your motorcycles out and enjoy the freedom of the roadways in Northern Nevada. Unfortunately some will still choose to drink and ride.

Sunday, June 7: Things to do around Carson City

Dayton is dishing up fun this weekend with their annual Oodles of Noodles festival. Sunday features a pet parade, live music, and more. The Sequicentenial of the Civil War will be remembered at the Dayton Cemetery; just take Main Street up the hill and to the left. Street Vibrations Spring Revival roars into Reno this weekend, and Virginia City is sure to have its share of bikers, as well. So please drive carefully.
