The hills around the Nevada state capital are alive with the sound of music and nature as the Carson City Symphony performs its 200th concert Sunday at the newly renovated Bob Boldrick Theater.

The Carson City Symphony’s Youth Strings Ensemble takes to the stage today for their spring concert, Music is for Life (Goes to the Movies), where you will hear them perform selected scores from our favorite cinema classics like James Bond and the Sound of Music. Teens can learn more about Geology during today’s STEM program at the Carson City Library, and those with a Sewing Certification can join in today’s workshop and walk away with a handy zippered bag.

Carson City Symphony's Youth Strings ensembles and Not Quite Ready For Carnegie Hall Players adult intermediate string ensemble will perform a "Music is for Life (goes to the movies)" concert on Thursday, April 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 East William Street in Carson City.

The valley is alive with the sound of music: the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, to be specific. Just about everywhere you go, you’ll be treated to something to soothe the soul or get the toes tapping. Get the kids up early for the Young Eagle Flights at the Carson City Airport – they’re free, but you need to be on time for registration. The weekend hasn’t even started, and I’m already exhausted just trying to decide what to do first! Live music, races, activities, and much more await you downtown as part of the Carson City Off-Road. Stewart Indian School is awash in bright colors, beadwork, and dancers from all across the country during their annual Fathers’ Day Pow Wow. Wild Horse Children’s Theater presents "Getting to Know The Sound of Music" at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall weekends June 9-18.

Performances are Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m.

"Getting to Know The Sound of Music" is uniquely adapted for youth performers from the musical "The Sound of Music," and is the world’s most endearingly popular musical.

Wild Horse Children's Theater announces Auditions for Getting to Know The Sound of Music, “The Hills are Alive” for young actors ages 6-18.

Auditions will be on Thursday, March 30 and Saturday, April 1 at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W King Street in Carson City. Callbacks are Saturday, April 1st , after auditions, and performances are weekends June 9-18. Auditions are by appointment only! You must call for an audition slot.

The Carson Valley Pops Orchestra will present an eclectic array of music and announce the 2017 Scholarship winners at their Annual Spring Concert on April 1 at 7 p.m. at the Carson Valley CIVC Hall.

The beautiful back lawn of the Governor's Mansion is the site of the Carson City Symphony's thirty-first annual Pops Party concert on Sunday, June 14, at 3:00 p.m. The program features the Carson City Symphony, Carson City Symphony Chorus, and guest singer Cindee LeVal.

Grounds open and pre-concert entertainment by the Regency Strings strolling duo (Cecilia Twain, violin, and George Worth, bass) begins at 2 p.m. The Naughty Tea Mistresses will be there, too!

The Northern Nevada premiere of Phantom of the Opera, Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic tale of forbidden love, will arrive at the Carson City Community Center during weekends in early November, according to the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The production will appear Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 4 - 20 at 2 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18-22 and may be purchased by phone or in person at the Performing Arts Office of Western Nevada College, 775-445-4249. Parking is free.

CARSON CITY — A 14-year-old Carson City girl who was taking a break from "The Sound of Music" rehearsals Thursday night at the Carson City Community Center, said she pushed away a man who "came out of nowhere" and jumped on top of her as stunned friends watched.

"I was kind of freaked out," the 14-year-old victim told Carson Now late Thursday night. "I just held my breath and pushed him off of me."

The unidentified man, who had led authorities on a car chase through town, was detained shortly after the attack by Carson City deputies. The incident began at about 8:30 p.m.

A man attempted to elude authorities tonight, driving his vehicle onto the lawn area of the Carson City Community Center, running through the building and then jumping on top of a 14-year-old girl before being detained by deputies.

The event happened at 8:32 p.m. when a justice court officer spotted the man driving erratically down Carson Street, nearly hitting a motorcyclist. The man was traveling at a high rate of speed and didn't stop, said Sgt. Mike Cullen.

Maria Arrigotti happily is back with the Western Nevada Musical Theater Company in the Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music.”

She starred in many productions with the company and her professionalism is evident on the stage as she leads the troupe of seven von Trapp children through the musical. The shows continues tonight and next week.

A couple of fine shows on tap this weekend for Carson City folk. One is a children's production, Aladdin, Jr." at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The other is the venerable "Sound of Music," staged by the Western Nevada Musical Theater Company, affiliated with our local college.

The acclaimed musical will play weekends, May 7-16.
