Lyon County Manager: Retention basin at Dayton Valley Road and Sutro at risk of overflow

Lyon County road crews continue to address flash flooding and snow removal on Thursday. Currently the retention basin at the area of Dayton Valley Road and Sutro is filling and may overflow by Thursday afternoon, said Lyon County Manager Jeff Page.

WNC names 373 students to Fall dean’s list, one of largest in years

Western Nevada College is proud to announce one of its largest dean’s lists in years. The Fall 2018 Dean’s List includes 373 students, accounting for 31.1 percent of the college’s full-time students.

December 21 is the Silver Stage Food Pantry’s fifth annual “Shopping with the Elves” event. From 1-5 p.m., parents who are guests of the Food Pantry can shop for gifts for their children.

The event includes a chance for children to visit with Santa and have holiday refreshments while their parents shop. The Pantry is in need of gifts for ages infant to 18 years.

Home-bound Seniors: The Pantry also welcomes donations of gifts for seniors. They deliver baskets and gifts to 40 home-bound elders, and sing carols to them as well.

Transient man arrested for failing to register after harassing grocery store customers

—A 57-year-old transient man was arrested in the parking lot of a Carson City grocery store early Friday morning on the charge of an ex-felon failing to register.

Deputies were called to the grocery store on reports of an intoxicated male harassing customers. When the man was asked to leave by employees, the man took a shopping cart for personal use and attempted to leave the property with the cart.

Central Lyon County Fire District lifts burning restrictions

DAYTON — The Central Lyon Fire Protection District has lifted burning restrictions effective Monday, Oct. 15. Open burning is permitted with a burn permit. Burn permits can be obtained at the District Office, located at 246 Dayton Valley Rd, Ste. 106 in Dayton. Permits are also available online at CentralLyonFire.org.
