Short detour ahead for road widening on cutoff to U.S. 50 near Silver Springs

CARSON CITY — During the week of April 13, a short detour will be in place for northbound Ramsey Weeks Cutoff traffic accessing U.S. 50 near Silver Springs as part of a Nevada Department of Transportation project to widen the highway.

Lyon County Human Services staffing reduced, senior centers offer drive-thru meal options

In response to the Declaration of Emergency by the Lyon County Board of Commissioners, the Human Services department has reduced the staffing in its' administrative offices. Limited services are being offered over the phone, individuals are encouraged to contact their local Human Services office with any questions or concerns.

Lyon County Board of Commissioners unanimously agree to emergency declaration

The Lyon County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a Declaration of Emergency through Resolution 20-05 and a meeting Monday afternoon, according to County Manager Jeff Page.

There was one person who poke against the resolution. Lyon County staff will now begin implementing procedures to address the declaration.

Lyon County Senior Centers join 'March for Meals' campaign to fight hunger, isolation among aging

Lyon County Senior Centers in Dayton, Fernley, Silver Springs and Yerington announced Wednesday that they will be participating in the 18th annual March for Meals – a month-long, nationwide celebration of Meal on Wheels and our senior neighbors who rely on the vital service to remain healthy and independent at home. On Thursday afternoon Central Lyon Fire was dispatched to a house fire in Silver Springs that left multiple people displaced and one with minor injuries.

University of Nevada, Reno to host free clinic in Silver Springs Saturday

The University of Nevada, Reno Student Outreach Clinic will be hosting a Rural Outreach Clinic in Silver Springs this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Screenings and exams include blood pressure and hypertension checks, diabetes screenings, wellness exams, clinical evaluations, as well as child influenza vaccinations.

Lyon County Commissioners approve new Dayton subdivision, reject mobile home workforce housing park

A new subdivision of 96 single family homes was approved by Lyon County Commissioners early this month, which will be built near the Sutro Heights subdivision in Dayton. A proposed Silver Springs mobile home park, which would provide workforce rental housing, was denied.

During the annual “State of the City” address Friday at Gold Dust West, Carson City’s Mayor Bob Crowell gave his last speech of its kind, as he is retiring at the end of this year.

The State of the City address is a way community members can be kept up to date on everything going on in our capital city, including achievements, challenges, and everything in between.

Updates included achievements such as the completion of the water pipeline from Douglas County to Carson City, the Complete Streets Project, Tesla’s grant for the Carson City School District, the first new park opening in 12 years, the opening of the Disc Golf course, and more.

380 students make Western Nevada College fall semester Dean's List

For the second straight Fall semester, more than 370 students at Western Nevada College made the Dean’s List. After 373 students made the Dean’s List last fall, that total was topped by 380 students who qualified for the honor for the recently concluded fall semester.

To earn the distinction of making WNC’s Dean’s List, students must complete at least 12 units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher. Honorees include:

Lyon County Detectives, Tri-County Gang Unit and ATF arrest pair in connection with firearm burglary

On January 2nd, Detectives from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit, along with the Tri-County Gang Unit and the ATF, served a search warrant on a residence in Silver Springs. This warrant was in relation to an ongoing burglary investigation where several firearms were stolen from a Federal Firearms License holder in the Silver Springs area.

Carson City deputies make arrests for protection order violation, multiple DUIs

A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Monday for misdemeanor violation of a protection order.
According to an arrest report, deputies responded late Sunday evening to a West Nye Lane apartment for a report of a man and woman arguing, yelling and screaming and a woman crying.
