Explosives found in parking lot at College Parkway and Goni in Carson City, bomb squad called
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 09/24/2018 - 5:02pmUPDATE 5:35PM: The Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad has removed what turned out to be a plastic baggie that contained 5 to 6 blasting caps, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Brian Mays. The explosives were brought to the parking lot area of College Parkway and Goni by a person who found them. Law enforcement was notified. All caution tape has been brought down and business has resumed back to normal, said Mays. The blasting caps will be detonated by the bomb squad at a secure location.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office and Fire Department were called late Monday afternoon to the area of College Parkway and Goni Road for explosives found in a business parking lot area between Sonic and First Independent Bank.

Malik Avila, 17, was sought by Douglas and Lyon County authorities following the fatal shooting. DSCO Sgt. Bernadette Smith confirmed it was Avila who was taken into custody.
