Nevada Commission for Women unveils historic license plate honoring 100 years of women's suffrage

The Nevada Commission for Women unveiled a limited edition license plate celebrating women’s suffrage as a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote.

The plate itself is historic to Nevada, as it was the first assembly bill, Assembly Bill 499, to be backed by only women. Bills need a majority vote to pass any legislation, and this session was the first session any state in the country saw a legislature with a female-led majority.

Instructors from Mexico receiving Mechatronics training at WNC

Mechatronics training in the Automation and Industrial Technology Center at Western Nevada College went international last week. Nevada System of Higher Education’s new and unique partnership with higher education institutions in the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico, began in earnest this week as a group of instructors visit WNC to participate in the accelerated Siemens Mechatronics certification program.

Local resident William Puchert has an online campaign underway to get kilt manufacturer Sport Kilt to offer the Nevada State Tartan through their Design Your Own Tartan Contest. They offer kilts and products for less than $100, which is more affordable to getting the tartan fabric and having it made, which places the costs into hundreds of dollars. Sport Kilt already offers a California State Tartan. The contest deadline is Nov. 1 a day after Nevada Day!

The kilt manufacturer has told Puchert if he can show a significant demand for the tartan style, they would consider offering it as one of their products next year.
