Lieutenant Governor to speak at Carson City Democratic luncheon
Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Kate Marshall, who on Jan. 7, 2019 became the 35th Lieutenant Governor of the State of Nevada. From 2007 to 2015, she served as Nevada's 21st State Treasurer.
After earning her law degree from UC Berkeley, she taught English and Commerce in Kenya for the Peace Corps before moving on to the Department of Justice's Antitrust Division, where her achievements won her their Outstanding Contribution Award. Her career in public service continued when she became the Senior Deputy Attorney General under AG Frankie Sue Del Papa. In the 2018 election, she was victorious in a four-way race for Lieutenant Governor, gaining a clear majority and soundly defeating the second place candidate, Michael Roberson, by 64,684 votes.
As Lieutenant Governor, Kate serves as President of the Senate when the legislature is in session, but only casts a tie-breaking vote. She serves as acting governor when the governor is out of state or otherwise unable to serve. She also chairs the Nevada Commission on Tourism and the Nevada Commission on Economic Development.
This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 14th, at the Carson City Round Table Pizza, 3325 Retail Drive just off College Parkway. Sponsored by the Democratic Men’s Committee, these luncheons help keep the lights on at Carson City’s Democratic HQ. An all-you-can-eat pizza and salad bar lunch buffet is available for $7.99. Water is free, extra charge for fountain drinks. Suggested donations of $5 or more gratefully accepted but are not required. All are welcome.
