Southwest Gas has proposed a rate hike amounting to an average increase of $2.27 per month for Northern Nevada residential customers. A consumer session will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27, to hear public comment regarding the annual rate adjustment application by the utility.

RENO, Nev. – “Unabridged,” the sixth annual Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl, will take place Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Reno, featuring an exploratory day of over 40 fiction, non-fiction, and poetry readings, as well as panel discussions, book signings, and workshops.

CARSON CITY — The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada has joined three other Western public utility Commissions in signing a joint action framework that addresses climate change through cooperation to reduce greenhouse gas pollution.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by, including the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, Carson City Library’s End of Summer Learning Challenge, history talks at Mormon Station Park, train rides in Virginia City, a sushi cooking class at Sierra Chef on Sunday and more!

Carson City’s Montessori has been educating a portion of the capitol city’s children for over a decade. They quickly outgrew their space, and have been looking to relocate for about 13 years.

Now, an end may be in sight. According to Carson Montessori Executive Director Jessica Daniels, the school has been looking at the vacant Silver State Charter School complex on Fairview since Silver State shut its doors. After funding fell out more than once, they’re at it again, and a tentative offer of over one million dollars has been offered for the space.

Heading into Tuesday Aug. 6, which means the safest family celebration of the year at the 17th annual Carson City National Night Out. This is an event like no other, where agencies who work in areas of public health and safety gather at Mills Park to meet with Carson City residents. This event features 3 hours of information booths, games, demonstrations, food and fun. Also happening Tuesday is a free robotics mini-camp for kids in nearby Silver City, Reciprocity Inc. will host a fundraiser at Rustically Divine, there's the Culinary Traveler’s Club's Polynesian Paradise featured at Bleu Café; the Carson City Classic Cinema Club will feature a Sci-Fi favorite at the BAC, plus fitness outings and more. MINDEN, Nev. — Partnership Douglas County teamed up with the University of Nevada, Reno’s Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies to offer a free community naloxone training at Partnership Douglas County’s office in Minden.

A wildlife bill supported by the Nevada Department of Wildlife and endorsed by resolution at the Nevada Legislature earlier this year has been introduced in Congress.

UPDATE: There's a star party late Monday night into Tuesday morning hosted by Carson City Parks and Recreation and Open Space. For summer’s most visible meteor showers, join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space Department at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory for some late night, educational fun. No pre-registration necessary. Please wear close-toed shoes and bring water for night hiking from the Observatory. Head lamps and flashlights are allowed. Heading into Monday, July 29, 2019 and we're wondering how the month went by so quickly. Again we're looking at a fairly typical end of July day weather wise, with sunny skies and a high around 94. The Northern Nevada Women & Philanthropy Forum is designed to bring awareness to the impact that women have on philanthropy. it is a day-long platform to discuss current trends in giving, the wealth transfer that women are leading, and philanthropy in the digital age.

At Carson Tahoe Health, we recognize that resources can be hard to come by. That’s why, in conjunction with the CDC and the National Diabetes Prevention Program, starting July 24, 2019, a session of “Small Steps. Big Rewards.” will begin. A year-long program that has proven to be effective in eliminating the risk of diabetes.
