Movie Review: 'Project X' a questionable teen party movie gone mad

The teen-comedy "Project X," currently at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City, is clearly aimed at high school teens, despite its R rating. It's a wild party scene that is the ultimate teen aspiration, including plenty of drugs, booze, nudity and destruction.

UNR holiday book tree erected in Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center

The soaring atrium of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center at the University of Nevada, Reno has an unconventional tree on display this holiday season. Some would call it a green tree, not just because of its color, but because the tree is made entirely of recycled materials – old books.

The 9.5-foot tree was constructed using pre-1950 National Union Catalog books. The rarely used reference books made an ideal book tree, with their evergreen covers and gold lettering on the spine.

Carson City heroes save Christmas

Question: What do Santa, a clown, a platoon of police officers, and coffee have in common?

Santa and his Wal-Mart helpers stood prepped to welcome less-fortunate children and help pair them off with volunteers, who would help them spend their complimentary Wal-Mart gift cards.

Movie Review: 'Arthur's Christmas' a true holiday treat

Glory be, what's going on in Hollywood? First there was Scorsese's "Hugo," an excellent non-Christmas homage to a French motion picture innovator. Now there's "Arthur's Christmas," in 3D that actually uses that medium to enhance a fine animation updating of the Yule story. It's playing at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City and well worth your visit.

Movie Review: Harold and Kumar take on Christmas — and win

I missed the first two films in the "Harold and Kumar" series, but if they were as goofy and off-the-wall funny and nonsensical as "A Very Merry Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas," I've got some catching up to do.

The newest in the franchise is playing at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City and watching it is like seeing all the possible gags from Hollywood over the years with a lot of stuff only the drug-using 21st Century could think up.
