Scenes from the Polar Express
For the lucky 7,500 people who scored tickets on the V&T Railway's Polar Express this year, you are in for a fantastic treat. My wife Tracy and I took our daughter Mira last night, and everyone had a great time.
Passengers board at the Eastgate Crossing, and the train cars are beautifully decorated inside for the holiday season. The train begins its journey into the darkness, adding to the mystery and excitement. Hot chocolate and cookies are served to everyone but volunteers dressed as elves and chefs. Then they read the story of "The Polar Express" over the speakers as the volunteers follow along with the book, while other characters from the story walk the aisles.
After about half and hour, the darkness outside is punctuated by the colorful lights of North Pole Village, where the train stops and Santa hops on board. Old Saint Nick hands out jingle bells to everyone and asks the children what they want for Christmas. Then everyone joins together to sing songs as the train comes back down to the station.
With the tickets already sold out for the year and the great reactions we saw, it's safe to say this will be an event that will likely grow and become a staple for the Christmas season here in Carson City.
