CARSON CITY — Nevada’s state museums are once again taking part in the national Blue Star Museums program, providing free admission to active-duty military personnel and their families.

The National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families program, now in its 10th year, launched the 2019 program on Saturday, May 18 – Armed Forces Day – and it will stay in effect through the Labor Day Weekend.

As we head into a jam-packed Memorial Day weekend, activities and events around Carson City on Friday will help set the mood for what promises to be a tremendous few days ahead. Festivities include the opening day of the Rockin’ Rib Fest at Carson City's Casino Fandango, the planting of American flags on the graves of our fallen veterans at Lone Mountain Cemetery, a weekly open mic night at A to Zen, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club, live music and more.

Here’s an events lineup of what's happening around the Carson City region for the 2019 Memorial Day weekend. More events will be added as information becomes available.

Early June events will launch the 2019 Summer Festival at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Douglas County.

Heading into Saturday, May 18, 2019 we say welcome to the weekend Carson City. Activities abound throughout the region. Bring an umbrella as the forecast calls for some showers. But above all, enjoy the events and activities lined up in Carson City, Carson Valley, Mound House, Silver City, Virginia City and Dayton areas.

Two families of rural Nevada business leaders, two longtime state officials who have helped save numerous historic treasures, and an organization dedicated to rescuing Nevada women from obscurity recently became the inaugural recipients of the Preserve Nevada Awards for contributions to historic preservation.

Carson City’s two state museums — the Nevada State Museum and Nevada State Railroad Museum — are collaborating on a project that highlights of 150-year-old artifacts in both museums’ collections.

On Saturday, May 25, starting at 9:00 in front of the Capitol building on North Carson Street, the Carson City Historical Society will be offering a 90-minute walking tour to view historic sites east of N. Carson Street, starting with the Capitol Mall area.

Sites will include the Capitol and the Capitol Mall, the Charles Friend Park, the historic area called Chinatown, the old Armory, the site of the former Nevada Orphans Home, the early racetrack and location of the Corbett-Fitzsimmons fight, and more.

The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

CARSON CITY — The completion of the transcontinental railroad in the spring of 1869 changed America forever, dramatically reducing the time and cost for people and goods to move across country and accelerating the western expansion of the industrial revolution.

With the goal of returning the railroad to operation this summer, the Carson City Railroad Association will be hosting Saturday track repair work sessions in Mills Park. CCRA would like to extend an invitation to any able-bodied volunteer willing to be a Gandy Dancer for a few hours on the Carson City and Mills Park Railroad.

Kicking off its 2019 season, V&T Railway will hold a special Mother’s Day train on Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12. Guests will experience a 24-mile round-trip ride through the historic Comstock, departing Carson City (Eastgate Depot) at 10 a.m. and will arrive in Virginia City at approximately 11:30 a.m., before returning to Carson at 4:15 p.m.

Oh what a difference the sunshine makes. The second day of May in Carson City will bring warming temperatures with a daytime high in the low 70s. The event lineup Thursday includes a law enforcement memorial at the capitol complex, a hike at Clear Creek, art showings, a lecture on the historic Transcontinental Railroad, live music and more. CARSON CITY — It has been called the most historically important train car in existence and how it traveled over the past 150 years from the Golden Spike ceremony at Promontory Summit, Utah to the center of a new exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City is quite a tale.

Good morning Carson City, and Happy Easter! Today will be more of the same with partly cloudy skies, gentle breezes, possible showers, with a high of 62 degrees and a low of 37 degrees. On the schedule today we have day two of egg hunting at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, an Easter Sunday service at the Community Center, a community bike ride, and more!

The first of two egg hunts at the Nevada Railroad Museum was a hit with the Easter hunters. Eggs filled with prizes, toys and stuffed animals were up for grabs during the hunt which lasted about one entire minute before the lawn was picked clean.

The Easter Bunny was on site for pictures, and inside the museum there will be children’s activities such as face painting, coloring stations, and more.

Festivities will continue throughout Saturday and then Sunday. The schedule is as follows:

Robert C. Gray, 97, of Orinda, California passed away peacefully at home April 3, 2019. Robert was born in Oakland, California to Harry E. Gray and Kathleen S. Carter on August 13, 1921.

Robert was kind, energetic and lived a full life. He was an advanced stamp collector and in 1935 he attended the first Boy Scout National Jamboree at Washington D.C.

Easter is this upcoming weekend, which means there will be a lot of small children, colored eggs, pastel colors, bunnies, candy, and festive spirits to be had. But Easter Sunday isn't the only day for egg hunts. Here's a list of upcoming egg-related activities for Carson City residents.

A number of Easter egg hunts are planned around the capital city beginning this weekend with the "Downtown EGGstravaganza" hosted by the Carson City Downtown Business Association.

Headed into Thursday, April 11, 2019 we welcome Carson City to another day where weather forecasters say there's a chance of rain and maybe even a few snow showers mixed in. Beyond the weather we're looking at a blockbuster day and night filled will activities throughout town. From library presentations, a TV show casting call at the Carson Nugget, an afternoon hike, to a train history presentation, a book signing at the Brewery Arts Center, a CHS theater performance and the Carson City movie screening premier of "The Mustang" filmed at the historic Nevada State Prison, there's something for everyone. Meet at the dirt parking lot opposite Murphy Drive on Combs Canyon parking area. Hike on a portion of the old V&T Railroad and enjoy fabulous views of Carson City and Eagle Valley. Hike distance will range between 2-4 miles, depending on trail condition.
