CARSON CITY — A convoy of vintage military vehicles, making its way cross country to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first U.S. Army Transcontinental Convoy from Washington, D.C. to San Francisco, will make a pit stop for lunch at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City on Thursday, Sept. 12.

Heading into Monday, Sept. 9, 2019 we're looking at the cooling trend to continue with mostly sunny skies and a daytime high in the mid-70s. Want to volunteer at the Nevada State Museum? There's training Monday and Tuesday for those interested. Other activities to get your first day of the work week going include art showings, West Coast swing dancing, and a presentation of the Eureka & Palisade Railroad at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. As the 150th anniversary of the opening of the U.S. Branch Mint in Carson City draws closer, the Nevada State Museum is expanding the days it showcases one of the Mint’s most enduring artifacts.

There's no better place than Virginia City for a parade, and the Comstock continues to honor those who use elbow grease to keep the gears of our great American way grinding. Thank you. Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days, which include guided tours at the Nevada State Museum, movie showings at Mills and Schulz Ranch Park, a school supply car cruise and Bingo fundraiser at the Carson Mall, trash pickup at Lake Tahoe, a Rolling Stones tribute band at Carson Nugget, Virginia City’s Labor Day Parade and more!

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking for the public's help with information regarding a commercial burglary investigation.

CARSON CITY — V&T Railway will hold auditions for the 2019 Polar Express season on Thursday, Sept. 5 and Friday, Sept. 6 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 7 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Eastgate Depot in Carson City. The railway is looking for actors, actresses and singers, age 13 and up to play roles from the popular movie including stewards and conductors, elves and Santa Claus.

Stop by the east side of Mills Park today, August 25, take a ride the Carson City and Mills Park Railroad, and then visit the Wungnema House for the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation’s monthly open house, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. There is no admission fee for the open house, and all are welcome.

CARSON CITY — To commemorate its historic 150-year anniversary, V&T Railway has introduced special anniversary trains running every Friday through the end of the season. Beginning Friday, Aug. 16, the Carson City to Virginia City train will feature re-enactments at the depot and during the 24-mile round-trip ride.

For the Virginia & Truckee Railroad, the story of its future as part of Nevada’s living history will be guided by its illustrious 150-year past.

Nevada Humanities will welcome author Willy Vlautin at a series of events throughout northern Nevada during the month of September. Mr. Vlautin is the author of Don’t Skip Out On Me, a 2019 pick for Nevada Reads—a statewide, public book club offered by Nevada Humanities. Nevada Reads invites Nevadans to read selected works of literature and to come together in their communities to share ideas and perceptions inspired by the book club selections.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including Hot August Nights Kickoff Rallies in Virginia City, history walks at Mormon Station Park, pickleball at the Carson City MAC, concerts at the Brewery Arts Center and TJ’s Corral, a Muscle Powered Sunday morning bike ride and more!

The month of August begins with a presentation on “The Great State Embezzlement,” Mo’z Motley Blues in concert and a presentation on “The History of Baseball in Nevada” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

On Sunday, August 4, at 10 a.m., Glen Whorton, President of the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society, returns to the park to speak on this year’s topic “The Great State Embezzlement.” This is a free event for all to attend.

The community is invited to a free gospel concert Friday in Carson City featuring the Blackwood Quartet. This group has a legendary story and it comes through in every song.

Good day Carson City and welcome to Sunday, July 28, 2019. It's the last day of this year's Carson City Fair at Fuji Park. Be sure to stop by and check out the farm animals, tractors and demonstrations. Also today is a tour of the Wungnema House, train rides, an author event in Silver City, a veterans support gathering for women at Mills Park and more.

Stop by the east side of Mills Park today, July 28th, ride the Carson City and Mills Park Railroad, and then come by the Wungnema House for the Carson City Parks Foundation’s monthly open house, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. There is no admission fee for the open house, and all are welcome.
