Carson City public figures compete at Spring Ball dinner-dance

High Sierra Swing Dance Club invites the public to its sixth-annual anniversary Spring Ball dinner-dance on April 27 at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson St., Carson City.

Dust off your evening gowns and neckties for an evening of great food and even-better dancing. The semi formal/formal-attire evening begins with no-host cocktails at 6 p.m.

Northern Nevada Medical Center to Provide Free Health Screenings at Nevada Women’s Expo

Sponsor Northern Nevada Medical Center will join forces once again with Nevada Women’s Expo to bring value, health education and Hollywood to our region's women. Northern Nevada Medical Center will offer free screenings for blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), glucose and neck/back physical therapy on a first-come, first-served basis.

The 11th annual Expo will be held March 23 – 24 at the Reno Sparks Convention Center. Physicians strongly advise having regular health screenings to which creates a dialogue and a proactive relationship with healthcare providers.

Nevada Women's Expo to focus on friends, family and reunion planning

The region's premiere women’s event, The 11th Annual Nevada Women's Expo, will take place on March 23-24 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Local ownership and production by Kristy Hawke and Destinations West, LLC has created an event people can count on year after year. New TV production company formed in Carson City

A new Carson City-based company is forming to create television shows targeting Baby Boomers. The Rockin 60's is a classic rock trivia game show that will offer cash prizes and products for people who can answer trivia questions, name 60's music and identify 60's photos as part of this tv show.

The company, formed by SJ Rose, stated that research shows Baby Boomers represent the generation with the greatest buying power in the history of our country.

Women to Women Nevada second season opens with contest, prizes

Women to Women, a television interview program on Charter Cable that puts the spotlight on important issues in Northern Nevada and the women behind them who are making a difference, has begun its second season with a contest and is inviting anyone to participate for a chance to win prizes.

Blood drive today at Carson City courthouse parking lot; drawing for restaurant prizes featured

Reminder: A blood drive is being held today through 11:15 a.m. at the Carson City courthouse parking lot. Every donor is entered to win a $25 Sassafras gift card and is also entered to win a February-wide $500 cash prize.
Walk ups are welcome. The blood donation van will be parked at the corner of Roop and Musser streets. United Blood Services is hosting the event.

By making the words of great poets literally come to life, more than 2,600 high school students across the state are competing to represent their county at the Eighth Annual Nevada Poetry Out Loud State Finals at Reno’s Whitney Peak Hotel, formerly CommRow, Saturday March 16, noon to 3 p.m.

A program of the Nevada Arts Council, Poetry Out Loud is a distinctive national arts education event that encourages students to learn about, memorize and finally present poetry --out loud. Nevada’s 2013 theme of “Powering Up Poetry,” is a nod to NV Energy, co-sponsor of the event.

46th annual Blake Jones Trout Derby north of Bishop

This year marks the 46th consecutive year that Bishop, California will celebrate the sport of trout fishing by hosting an early season derby bearing the name of legendary fisherman Blake Jones.

On Saturday, March 16th the Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce expects upwards of 1,000 anglers to participate in the contest, which is one of the state’s biggest annual single-day fishing events.

Local Student Mathletes® to Compete in Northern Nevada Math Contest

(Reno, Nevada) — Middle school Mathletes® from Northern Nevada schools will compete in a contest for the national MATHCOUNTS® program on February 2nd starting at 9AM and held at NV Energy (6100 Neil Road, Reno, Nevada). The competition has been organized by volunteers from the engineering community and the Nevada Society of Professional Engineers.

The annual Mr. Carson High competition will be held on Friday, March 1st at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Senior boys will be competing for the crown through dancing, singing and a variety of other talents. Fast Pass tickets can be purchased for $15.

This ticket includes appetizers and choice of preferred seating. General admission tickets are $7. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the CHS finance office, Sierra Adrenaline Cheer and Tumbling, CHS cheerleaders or Mr. Carson candidates.

Stroll around downtown Carson City and enjoy wine tasting with a commemorative wine glass, refreshments and snacks during the monthly Downtown Wine Walk.
