Big-Band twice in one night with Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza

It's "big-band jazz times two" when the Carson High Jazz Band and the Mile High Jazz Band present their eleventh annual combined concert, the Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, 7:00 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, Carson City. The Extravaganza is sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and the Carson City Band Association as a benefit for Carson High music programs.

Friends of the Carson City Library holiday handmade creations sale begins Thursday

An all-ages group of nearly 200 set up camp Sunday night in front of the new Buffalo Wild Wings on South Carson Street in Carson City, each trying to be among the first 100 through the door at 11 a.m. Monday for the grand opening and chance to eat free wings for a year.

Festival of Earthly Treasures & Healing Arts III

Carson City Raiders Booster annual fundraiser and auction this Sunday at Carson Lanes

The Carson City Raiders Booster Club's annual fundraiser and auction is this coming Sunday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Carson Lanes Eleventh Frame Lounge, 4600 Snyder Avenue.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to purchase Christmas gifts for 20 homebound seniors in the community (our list of seniors and their modest wish lists are supplied to us by the Meals on Wheels program).

Each year our members shop, wrap, deliver and visit each home bound senior on our list. It's always a heart-warming experience to help make these seniors' holidays more merrier.

Poetry and performance project brings out the best in students across Nevada

Finding ordinary magic just became a little easier for Amanda Aldridge, who teaches high school English in the agricultural community of Yerington, 80 miles outside of Reno. Thanks to money awarded through the Nevada Poetry Out Loud Program, a national poetry recitation competition for high school students, Aldridge added $500 in her budget for resources to help students overcome fears and experience the magic of poetry.

The Lodge to Host Halloween Party for Local Seniors

The Lodge Assisted Living Community invites all area seniors to celebrate Halloween at its monthly Senior Mingle. Party goers will enjoy devilish delights and spirits, ghoulishly good giveaways and eerie entertainment.

The frightening fun takes place October 31, from 2 – 4 pm in the Lodge’s dining hall.

Everyone is encouraged to dress up for the event, as there will also be a costume contest with prizes.

Free Mediterranean food cooking demonstration Saturday at Villa Basque

From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. the public is invited, free of charge, to learn about and sample the foods from the Mediterranean area of the world which are making such a healthy difference to our bodies.

Charity fundraiser at Touched by Angels

Considering that staggering statistic, Reno-based Western Bariatric Institute (WBI) believes it is more important than ever to raise awareness of obesity to help ensure access to effective treatment options as well as to provide education about prevention.
