The Orchestra Program of Carson City School District is holding its Holiday Concert Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Just the idea of a concert in Carson City is exciting enough, but it gets even better because this musical event will cost audiences absolutely nothing except a little time and effort getting there. Admission is free.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is attempting to locate a 74-year-old man, reported missing, who was last seen Saturday, Nov. 30.

The break in the stormy weather was a short one, with more precipitation later in the day Wednesday, forecasters say. Going into the middle of the work week we can expect highs near 70. CARSON CITY — The opportunity to take a great photograph at the Nevada State Railroad Museum doesn’t have to end when the sun goes down.

Going into the middle of the work week we can expect sunny skies with highs in the upper 60s. Events around the capital city Wednesday, Nov. 6 include gallery showings, a Veterans Day assembly at Sierra Lutheran High School, the first "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, a presentation, "Nevada’s Ancient Rock Art: Art for All Times" hosted by Capital City Arts Initiative, storytelling at the Carson City Library and more.

As part of the Nevada Humanities Exhibition Series, a new exhibition, Snapshot: Culling Our History from the Family Album, opens on December 5, 2019, at the Nevada Humanities Program Gallery in Las Vegas. The exhibition is presented in partnership with the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) University Libraries Special Collections and Archives. Snapshot is co-curated by Peter Michel, Interim Director of Special Collections and Archives, and Aaron Mayes, Curator for Visual Materials. The exhibition will be on display December 5, 2019, through January 23, 2020.

Going into the eve of Halloween, teeth will be chattering as the weather calls for sunny skies but with a chill in the air and daytime temperatures in the upper 40s around the capital city. Events around town Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 include a Halloween costume walk at Riverview Park in Carson City, a "trick or trunk" event in Dayton, art showings, storytelling at the Carson City Library and more.

We're days away from our celebration of statehood and the weather around the capital city couldn't be more, well, Nevada-like with daytime highs near 70 and sunny skies. Carson City area activities ahead for Wednesday, Oct. 23 feature an economic roundup presented by the Northern Nevada Development Authority at Casino Fandango, Carson Tahoe's annual "Spooktacular" family event, Firehouse Subs will host our local Search and Rescue for a dinner fundraiser; Sierra Nevada Journeys and Nature Conservancy will present family STEM night in Genoa, plus art showings and more. VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. — The Comstock History Center Museum presents “Honest Horses: A Portrait of the Mustang in the Great Basin” featuring photographs by Paula Morin depicting an uncommon view of the significance of the wild horse to the Great Basin.

Breezy and cool conditions are on the way as we look ahead to Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019. Nothing compares to the Nevada Day Show at the NAA Art Gallery where we generally receive well over 100 entries. This show features work that reflects the spirit of Nevada and beyond.

Many of our shows are specific to our members, however, this one is open to artists from the community at large. If you are interested in showing your artwork and/or photography at this judged show please plan to bring your work to the gallery on Saturday, October 19th, anytime from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators have three people in custody who are alleged to have been involved in a residential burglary where several firearms, among other things, were stolen.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking for assistance in locating a fraud suspect. On July 30, 2019 an elderly victim was approached by the suspect who claimed to be a nurse.

Jamming into the midweek, events lined up for Wednesday, Sept. 25 around the capital city include a Carson City Chamber's Soup's On luncheon with a primer on blockchain. The Northern Nevada Development Authority will host its monthly Business Edge meeting at Casino Fandango with a focus on Nevada's energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives. Also happening: Fusion cooking classes at Healthy Communities Coalition’s Dayton headquarters, plus the Veterans Resource Group will make a visit to the Dayton Food Pantry. UPDATE: Due to weather concerns, the Pirate Pup Parade will be moved indoors outside of the Black Box Theater at the Brewery Arts Center. The film showing of "Hook" will be held in the BAC Performance Hall. Food Trucks will be outside in the parking lot.

Virginia City’s popularity as a “must-see” destination has never waned, and with the local tourist agency's focus on bringing more events to the Comstock, visitor numbers are certainly expected to grow.

One thing the historic mining town wasn’t prepared for, however, was a strain on one very-important utility.
