Music, I have to believe, is the best medicine on the shelf. It cuts down on our doctor bills and keeps us from sourin'. So I went to the Jubilate Holiday Concert in Truckee to cheer myself up and put a spring back in my step. It turned out to be the best decision I could have made.

A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Monday for misdemeanor violation of a protection order.
According to an arrest report, deputies responded late Sunday evening to a West Nye Lane apartment for a report of a man and woman arguing, yelling and screaming and a woman crying.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety recently appointed Anne Carpenter as Chief of the Parole and Probation Division. Carpenter officially took command in June 2019. The previous Chief, Natalie Wood, retired in May of 2019.

Obituary: William 'Bill' Clarence Thornton, 1934-2019

William "Bill" Clarence Thornton, father, attorney, pilot, part-time cowboy, corny joke-teller, and mentor to many, had his final flight on Tuesday, November 5th, 2019 after gracefully charting his course with Parkinson's Disease for over twenty years. Bill died peacefully at home in hospice care surrounded by loved ones.

Department of Public Safety appoints new Nevada Highway Patrol Colonel

CARSON CITY — Nevada Department of Public Safety Director George Togliatti announced the appointment of Daniel Solow as Colonel of the Nevada Highway Patrol effective Monday, Nov. 8, 2019.

Colonel Solow was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in December 2017 and has been with the Department since 1995, beginning his career with the Nevada DPS as a Trooper serving the Laughlin/Searchlight district. The previous NHP Colonel, John O'Rourke, retired in August 2019.

Going into Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 it is Veterans Day. Federal, state and local government offices and schools are closed to observe the holiday. Thank you U.S. Veterans for your service to our great country. There are a number of organized happenings in the region, including parades in Virginia City and Reno, as well as events in South Lake Tahoe and Sparks. Plus a number of Carson City and Carson Valley restaurants are offering no cost meals as a gesture of gratitude to veterans and active duty military members. Nevada Dept. Public Safety commissions 17 new peace officers at academy graduation

RENO — The Nevada Department of Public Safety commissioned the state's newest Peace Officers at the Academy 86 graduation ceremony held Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Galena High School Theater.

Of the 17 graduates, 11 will join the Nevada DPS, Parole and Probation Division and 6 will join the Nevada DPS, Highway Patrol Division. The new Peace Officers will be assigned statewide.

Carson City sheriff's deputies make battery, drug-related arrests

A 36-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 12:15 p.m. in the 3200 block of E. Nye Lane for suspicion of misdemeanor battery, a sheriff's deputy report states.

According to the report, deputies were dispatched to the 3000 block of East Nye Lane in reference to a disturbance. A female called the sheriff's office asking for a deputy and then the phone disconnected.

Man booked on felony charges after leading deputies on chase, claims he's escaped police three times before

After leading deputies from multiple agencies on a chase through Carson City and into Washoe Valley Friday evening, a 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested at gun point after crashing a vehicle and running across the I-580 on foot.
