What Works: Loss? It’s Time to Shift!

know it’s weird. But every Fall, I don’t rush for the pumpkin spice lattes and the sweaters. It takes me awhile to embrace what some would call their favorite season. It usually takes until about now, a few days before Nevada Day, to notice that the loss of my beloved summer is turning into something new — the holiday season.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include Harvest Train festivities at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Thomas the Tank Engine and steam train rides in Virginia City, the first-ever Gandy Dance in Dayton, October Ghost Walk Tours through downtown Carson City and more!

While haze from nearby Sierra fires may linger some, we're looking at another pleasant fall day around the capital city heading into Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019. Events locally include a ribbon cutting and outdoor moving showing at the new Schulz Ranch Park, workshops, a women's safety meeting, a pumpkin patch for kids at Carson Mall, plus art showings and public talks. Carson City to cut ribbon, show outdoor movie Wednesday at new Schulz Ranch Park

Carson City and Lennar Homes will host the grand opening of Schulz Ranch Park this Wednesday, Oct. 16. Schulz Ranch Park is the first new park in Carson City in 12 years.

Built by Lennar Homes, the park is owned by Carson City, with maintenance funded through the City’s first Landscape Maintenance District. The 3.5-acre park, located in the Schulz Ranch subdivision, is at the corner of Race Track Road and Wheeler Peak Drive, is home to the second universally accessible playground in Carson City.

Carson City Parks Foundation receives National Pony Express donation for disc golf park

As Carson City’s disc golf complex nears completion, the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation’s president, David Johnson, announced that the Foundation recently received a generous donation from the Nevada Division of the National Pony Express Association, for the sponsorship of a hole at the Carson Ridge Disc Golf Park.

Carson City ‘My Place’ Hotel to host Grand Opening Oct. 10

The new My Place Hotel located at 17 Hospitality Way in Carson City will host a Grand Opening on Thursday, October 10 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m.

Those in attendance will be able to tour the new hotel. There will also be prizes and giveaways, hors d’oeuvres, local food trucks, adult beverages, and there with be live KOZZ classic rock.

Carson City, Nevada — The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Saludos Amigos", by artist Justin Favela at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. Favela will install his work with community assistance from September 30 – October 4. CCAI will host an opening reception on Friday, October 4, 5-7pm; the artist will give a brief talk about his work at 5:30pm. The exhibition will be in the gallery from October 4, 2019 – January 29, 2020.

Lakes are opening for Public Lands Day. Even if you are not an angler and just enjoy the great outdoors, then September 28th is a day to get out and enjoy Public Lands Day. This day all national and state parks in the United States are free to all. This will include entrance, parking, camping and boating on this day (where applicable). The next Public Lands Day will be November 11th of this year.
