It’s a planes, trains, and automobiles kind of weekend. Add in bands, bikes and bar-be-ques and we’ve got most of this weekend’s list covered. The Carson City Airport is celebrating 90 years at this year’s open house and fly-in. One of the summer’s best events with balloon rides, cool old planes, and much more: you won’t want to miss it. Beat the heat at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada; all admission fees have been waived today thanks to Carson City Toyota. Summer concerts at the Brewery Arts Center begin tonight with the Original Wailers.

CARSON CITY — With a theme "The NexGen of Aviation is You" the 2018 Carson City Airport Open House looks to the skies to celebrate the future this Saturday, June 23. The free community, family-friendly event draws thousands of visitors annually, where airplane and aircraft enthusiasts gather to learn about aviation and aerospace related careers.

The Carson City Airport is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year and will hold its annual Open House this Saturday, June 23 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free community event, which annually draws more than 6,000 visitors, takes place at the Carson City Airport, 2600 College Parkway.

There is quite a bit to look forward to today, not to mention this coming weekend. The Rockabilly Riot roars into town and sets up shop at Mills Park for a whole weekend of vintage rat-rods and rock-n-roll. You’ll find the Extreme Motor Officers Challenge in the park, too, so expect it to be noisy. The Pony Express rides again, as it does every year, and retraces its historic route. Keep an eye out this evening for the rider heading east. Enjoy some blues, funk and rock courtesy of the Mylo McCormick Project at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park as part of their annual summer music series.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, annually recognizes individuals, organizations, and businesses for outstanding contributions made to further the combined missions of the Foundation and the Carson City Department of Parks, Recreation, and Open Space.

This first weekend of June packs quite a punch: activities and events abound. Head downtown for the first Third and Curry Farmers Market of the season, then wander a few blocks north for Due Sorella’s Spring Vintage Market. You may as well just keep the car parked. With the monthly Wine Walk, Pour for Paws in McFadden Plaza, and Crystal’s Crusade Street Party Fundraiser on W. Telegraph, downtown is the place to be. There are so many options this weekend, so take a gander and enjoy your weekend.

CARSON CITY — To celebrate the arrival of several new musical instruments from a $16,000 grant for music education earned earlier this year, Mark Twain Elementary School will host an Orff & Drum Music Open House Tuesday, May 29, at 6 p.m. in the multipurpose room.

A crowd of families attended the 15th Annual Cops and Kids Sheriff's Open House and Safe Streets party, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Saturday.

Carson City's own Amazing Spider-Man was sighted Saturday afternoon jogging southbound on North Carson Street toward downtown.

It’s going to be a chili weekend, and that has nothing to do with the weather. The annual Chili on the Comstock Competition takes over the tiny town of Virginia City, including a saloon crawl Saturday and the hilarious ‘Fun with the Runs’ 5K. Families will have a hard time choosing between the Cops and Kids Open House and Safety Fair at the Sheriff’s Office and the ‘Kids to Parks’ Day activities at Silver Saddle Ranch. With public safety, awareness and community at the center, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host its 15th annual Cops and Kids Open House this Saturday, May 19 at the sheriff's office administration building.

The 20th Anniversary Senior Celebration will be held today in the Carson Nugget; free for all to attend, you’ll have the chance to visit a variety of booths with information and resources. After yesterday’s freakish hailstorm, we may as well be ready for anything. More thunderstorms might be on the way this afternoon, but I can’t promise they follow any kind of schedule. The first of the season Third Thursday Wine Walk in downtown Gardnerville is this afternoon, and you may want to bring an umbrella as you sip and stroll.

Spring has finally arrived and it's that wonderful time again for the annual Silver Saddle Ranch Open House. Located in southeast Carson City off of Carson River Road, the working ranch encompasses 703 acres that run along the east and west bank of the Carson River.

Not a cloud in the sky, and yet we have been hit by a perfect storm: Cinco de Mayo, Kentucky Derby Day, and the monthly wine walk have all collided. Let me tell you, downtown is going to be hopping, not to mention the Early Season Farmers Market making its seasonal debut in the parking lot at W. Musser and N. Nevada – just behind Due Sorella. Take the kids down to Bailys Pond at Fuji Park for the annual Tom Brooks Memorial Kids’ Fishing Day. A trip to the train museum comes with the opportunity to ride on the Historic McKeen Motor Car.

I just returned from visiting beautiful gardens filled with amazing tulips, pansies, flowering cherry trees and many other lovely blooms.

They are the Crystal Hermitage Gardens located on the outskirts of Nevada City.

Hold onto your hat, Carson City, we’re in for one heck of a weekend. It’ll be cowboy hats and pioneer bonnets in Genoa for Western Heritage Day. Keep an eye out for Mark Twain, plenty of music, and fun for all. Leis are the preferred accessory for Lei Day at the Nevada State Museum where you’ll be treated to Polynesian surprises and free admission. With three local theater groups performing this weekend, you’re sure to find a performance that’s right up your alley. Read on and be prepared to be bombarded with options.

It’s Denim Day in Nevada, which is just a way to show support for the survivors of sexual assault and bring awareness to the issue. Your early morning coffee might even come with a specially made heat sleeve in honor of the occasion. The Carson City Library is continually bringing something new to our community. Today, you can get certified to use their laser cutter and engraver in the new Maker Space, or you can get a dose of some international flavor. Their Diversity in Action program features Peruvian and Latin American Folkloric music, and is suitable for all ages.

Want to learn something about the Hopi stonemasons who built the house, and other distinctive homes and structures around the Carson City area, including at least one church at Lake Tahoe? Just want a look inside?

The members of the Carson Communicators Toastmasters Club 2131 are inviting the public to join them for a special evening open house on May 17 at 6 p.m. at the Black Bear Diner inside the Max Casino on South Carson Street.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is once again coordinating the collaborative efforts of federal, state and local fire services; public safety agencies; community organizations; and others to participate in Nevada Wildfire Awareness Month throughout May.

Lending a hand to the Boys and Girls Club can be as easy as lunch or dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings; their annual Team Up for Kids Community Day raises funds for our local organization. Put some swing in that thing during Jazz Night at Living the Good Life, just get there in time for their delicious dinner menu.
