Reno Police Department mourns loss of officer

It is with heavy hearts that the Reno Police Department announces the death of one of our newest police officers. Officer Bradley Hartsell suffered an unforeseen medical issue while at his home on December 19, 2019.

Officer Hartsell joined the Reno Police Department in April of 2019, and graduated from the Northern Nevada Law Enforcement Academy on December 3, 2019.

Today, Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020 is the beginning of a new year, a new decade and also a new set of laws. More than 70 laws enacted by the Nevada Legislature last year take effect either in whole or in part today.

They include several major health care initiatives — including a ban on surprise emergency room bills, a tax on vaping products and a requirement that hospitals use patients’ preferred names and pronouns — as well as laws that will benefit employees, including paid sick leave.

Possible Homicide reported on Carson City's Washoe Tribe Reservation early Friday morning

UPDATE 3:19 p.m.: The Washoe Tribal Police issued the following statement:

On December 13, 2019 at approximately 0304 hours the Washoe Tribe Police and the Carson City Sheriff's Department responded to the area of Boyle St., Carson City, NV, within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Washoe Tribe for a reported Domestic Battery.

Upon arrival it was discovered that an adult victim within a residence had suffered apparent multiple gunshot wounds. The adult victim was declared deceased at the scene.

The Washoe Tribe Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are currently investigating the incident and have made an arrest of an adult individual.

Further details of the incident are being withheld at this time to ensure due process for the arrestee.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the 2800 block of Boyle St. on the Washoe Tribe reservation early Friday morning to assist the Carson City Fire Department in regards to a gun shot victim call for service.

The Tribal Police were dispatched, and CCSO responded to aid first responders and the Tribe until officers could arrive on scene.

Carson City Fire Department first responders attempted to provide life saving services to the victim, but were unsuccessful.

A 38-year-old Mound House woman was arrested Wednesday, in the 1400 block of South Carson Street, for misdemeanor suspicion petit larceny and gross misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, a Carson City sheriff's report states.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to a business where a store manager alerted to a woman wearing several coats who had fled the store after stealing several items of merchandise.
