Carson City students to explore career options, tour Tesla in STEM and sustainability program

In partnership with Envirolution, a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring and empowering the next generation of leaders and workers to drive the growth of a sustainable economy, students in the Carson City School District will have the opportunity to charge their minds and connect career options by exploring STEM and sustainability programs with local businesses, including Tesla.

Carson Nugget and the Carson City based Food for Thought organization are hosting a coat drive for children now through Nov. 15. Organizers of this drive are asking for donations of new coats, for children ages 5 to 18, which will be distributed to children at the Kids Christmas Brunch, to be held Dec. 23 at the Carson Nugget Grand Ballroom.

Pet food drive underway at Michael Hohl Motor Company in Carson City

Through the month of October, Michael Hohl Motor Company in Carson City will collect pet food donations to fill a pickup truck with pet food to support Pets of the Homeless. The dealership will donate all supplies to Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, rural northern Nevada’s largest social services program.

Support sought for horse protection fencing at Carson City's Centennial Park

Virginia Range Wildlife Protection Association is working with the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space to install a fence at Centennial Park. Lyon County group forms to address illegal dumping and promote ways to stop it

YERINGTON — Lyon County Code Enforcement held a meeting last week to address the problem of illegal dumping countywide. The Illegal Dumping Work Group, which represents a number of agencies and nonprofit organizations, will meet on a quarterly basis to continue collaboration and cooperation in its efforts to clean up areas where illegal dumping frequently happens.

Green dining district organizer to speak at Carson City Democratic luncheon

In wake of the recent studies conducted by Desert Research Institute and UC Davis finding microplastics in Lake Tahoe, local 501(c)(3), "Clean up the Lake" in partnership with Tahoe Dive Center, have decided to speed up their announcement of their pre-existing plan to do a 72-mile underwater-scuba trash clean up of the entire shoreline of Lake Tahoe in Nevada and California.
