Happy Saturday, Carson City! We have a beautiful, hot labor day weekend ahead of us with highs of 93 and lows in the mid 50s through Monday. There are tons of great summer-time events this weekend, and enjoy them while you can because Fall is just around the corner!

Saturday, August 31

Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days, which include guided tours at the Nevada State Museum, movie showings at Mills and Schulz Ranch Park, a school supply car cruise and Bingo fundraiser at the Carson Mall, trash pickup at Lake Tahoe, a Rolling Stones tribute band at Carson Nugget, Virginia City’s Labor Day Parade and more!

Marching forward to the midweek, Wednesday, August 28, 2019 will continue to bring sunny skies with a chance of isolated thunderstorms around the capital city. Ahead for the day includes NNDA's Business Edge breakfast at Carson Valley Inn, A "Lunch and Learn" workshop at Carson Nugget, art showings, a Chautauqua presentation of "Sisters of the Sage" at Dangberg Historic Park, Salsa dancing and more.

Heading into Tuesday, August 27, 2019 we're looking at continued hot weather around the capital city, with daytime highs in the mid to upper 90s. Ahead is a job fair at the Carson Nugget, a Fat Tuesday business networking gathering, a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, free skin cancer testing offered by Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness Institute, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs and more.

Join Muscle Powered on the last Saturday in August for a beautiful hike to Marlette Lake. The hike begins from the Spooner Lake parking lot, travels north on North Canyon Road, and continues onto the single-track trail north to Marlette Lake.

Have you wondered what it takes to create a great non-profit organization? Come to our Lunch and Learn workshop on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 so we can give you some tips to create your new non-profit.

The cost is $10 per person and you can pay at the door (cash or check; sorry, no credit cards, please). You'll take home a booklet with a wealth of information to get you started and running your new non-profit.

Coming up on Thursday, August 22, 2019, we can expect continued sunny skies with a daytime near 90. Among upcoming events: Thursday is the final day of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center. Take in a film screening and talk to the filmmakers who made them. There's a Polka Dot Powerhouse Carson City lunch connect at Red's Old 395 Grill, plus Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park and a volunteer expo hosted by Leadership Douglas County. There's also a discussion about aviation history and trends at the Nevada State Museum, a Carson City GOP information meeting on Block Chain technology, Jazz and Beyond music festival events and more. Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. Also featured is the launch of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the community center, a jazz quintet performance at Comma Courtyard and the 115th birthday celebration of Count Basie as part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival. Enjoy the day.

During Thursday’s Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting, a resolution was passed to rename the archery range at Centennial Park the “Tim Meigs Carson City Archery Range.”

Representatives of Carson City’s Clear Creek Bowmen archery club, along with the Parks and Recreation department, brought the resolution to the Board in an effort to honor Tim Meigs, a long-time Carson City citizen who was entered into the Archery Hall of Fame, and who has based his archery business out of the capital city for over sixty years.

Heading into Thursday, August 15, 2019 we can expect hot weather to continue with high temperatures near 100. Among events for the day, there will be a wreath remembrance ceremony for fallen Carson City law enforcement officers at the sheriff's office, a Muscle Powered morning hike, art showings, and a meeting of the Status of Women in Nevada group at the Carson Nugget. As part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival, there will be an outdoor "Woodstock Remembered" concert at Comma Coffee and a music presentation, "All About that Bass" by Scot Marshall and Friends at the Nevada State Museum.

Heading into Tuesday, August 13, there's a galaxy of events lined up, beginning at midnight with a meteor shower watch party at WNC's Jack C. Davis Observatory. When the sun arrives there's fitness events, a book talk at the Nevada State Library and Archives, outdoor Carson City jazz festival happenings at Comma Coffee and Bob McFadden Plaza, family movie night at the library and more.
