Carson City's Centennial archery facility to be named for internationally-renowned bow maker
During Thursday’s Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting, a resolution was passed to rename the archery range at Centennial Park the “Tim Meigs Carson City Archery Range.”
Representatives of Carson City’s Clear Creek Bowmen archery club, along with the Parks and Recreation department, brought the resolution to the Board in an effort to honor Tim Meigs, a long-time Carson City citizen who was entered into the Archery Hall of Fame, and who has based his archery business out of the capital city for over sixty years.
At the age of 87, Meigs retired from his work with Meigs Archery in 2017 after moving the business to Carson City in 1972 from San Francisco. He distinguished himself in his career as an internationally-hailed master bowyer, and has been hand making traditional bows since the 1940s.
Meigs passed away earlier this year on February 27 at the age of 90.
The Clear Creek Bowmen is a non-profit organization that manages the city-owned Centennial Archery Range through a use agreement.
The resolution was unanimously passed by the Board following the presentation.
