Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The American Cancer Society is hosting a poker run Saturday at Mills Park, and a free lacrosse clinic for kids ages 6-12 will be held at John L. Harvey Field. The Nevada Humane Society is virtually hosting its annual “Adopt a Duck” fundraiser for interested participants. The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City is facing a possible closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a shortfall of funding. The Museum is now open and ready to serve all the families from this lovely region, and there are numerous ways the community can help.

CARSON CITY — On Monday, Gov. Steve Sisolak launched the new State of Nevada Climate Initiative to further advance Nevada’s efforts to address climate change.

The free lacrosse clinic on August 29, 9 a.m. at the John L. Harvey Field located at Western Nevada College is filling up fast, so be sure to register! The High Sierra Lacrosse League and the Carson Capitols Lacrosse club are putting on this free event for boys and girls, ages 6-12.

The Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Nevada is announcing their expansion to the Northern Nevada LGBTQ+ business community. The advocacy nonprofit provides business development opportunities, financial access, educational resources, supplier diversity and procurement opportunities to LGBTQ+ and allied business professionals statewide.

Through a partnership between Carson Capitols Lacrosse and the High Sierra Lacrosse League, a youth clinic will be held on August 29, 9 a.m. at the John L. Harvey Field at Western Nevada College.

The annual Genoa Lakes Ladies’ Golf Club President’s Cup tournament took place July 14 and July 16 at the Genoa Lakes Golf Club Ranch and Lake courses. Thirty members competed in the two-day net tournament. Jeri Mihelic won the tournament with a net score of 142. Gail Teig was the runner-up with a score of 143 and Terri Ianiro was the 3rd place winner with a score of 147.

With small businesses needing to make many adjustments to their operations amid COVID-19 restrictions and economic challenges, University of Nevada, Reno Extension is offering town halls this Wednesday to introduce small-business owners to resources available to them.

You might have heard that Carson City is now a Bee City. But what does that mean, how did it happen, and how can you help?

What happened is that a small group of committed beekeepers decided to approach the city with the idea, and then worked tirelessly for two years with Carson City Board of Supervisors and Mayor Bob Crowell to develop an organization committed to protecting pollinator habitat within the city boundaries.

The Nevada Housing Rights Coalition has urged local governments to take swift action to protect the health of Nevadans experiencing homelessness in the wake of the COVID-19 epidemic.

The Nevada Northern Regional Behavioral Health Policy Board elected Taylor Allison, executive director of Partnership Douglas County, as their new chair on Feb. 26.

Art has many facets and can be found almost anywhere and within anyone. To me, there’s nothing more fascinating and entertaining than watching professionals execute their craft, totally absorbed and unaware of those watching them.

Members of Nevada Raider Nation, Carson City Chapter, presented a check recently for $1,000 to the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The money has been earmarked to upgrade the software, screen, and printing mechanism in the Gravesite Locator.

The Carson Valley Trails Association (CVTA) will host the organization’s annual meeting and member celebration on Wednesday, March 4, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.

The evening will feature trails information and updates, complimentary refreshments, raffle prizes, and a no-host bar. The event is free and open to the public.

With sunny skies and daytime highs in the 50s, Tuesday is shaping up to be a great day around the capital city. CARSON CITY — Time for golf! The Silver Oak Senior Men’s Golf Club has officially teed it up for the 2020 golf season. SOSMGC is open to golfers 55 years of age and older and all handicap levels.
