The Carson City area has added back enough jobs to be within 700 jobs of its pre-COVID employment levels, according to the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation in a September jobs report released Tuesday.

CARSON CITY — V&T Railway is celebrating Halloween with family-friendly and spooky railbike rides. Running Friday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 25 and Wednesday, Oct. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 31, V&T Railway will offer children and adult focused haunted railbike rides at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.

CARSON CITY — As a result of COVID-19, V&T Railway Commission has announced that fan favorite, Polar Express, has been cancelled for the 2020 season. In its place, V&T Railway will host Santa’s Drive-Thru Village, a socially distanced holiday event, Dec. 11-13 and Dec. 18-24.

The Carson City School Board of Trustees meets Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street. In a scathing letter, Gov. Steve Sisolak condemned President Donald Trump's “callous disregard for our emergency directives” by hosting two in-person rallies in Nevada over the weekend in spite of the ongoing pandemic.

Carson City Mayor, attorney and Vietnam veteran Robert L. "Bob" Crowell died overnight. He was 74.

Robert L. "Bob" Crowell was a native Nevadan, born in the mining town of Tonopah and raised in Carson City. An attorney by profession, Bob was a Vietnam Veteran and retired Navy Captain. He was elected Mayor of Carson City in 2008 and assumed his duties as Mayor on January 5, 2009. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. Prior to being elected Mayor, Bob served 11 years on the Carson City School Board of Trustees.

Local elections — where politics matters the most of all. While the race for president, and maybe certain races in the Senate and House, dominate the news, the fact is that all politics is local and that your local government is the one that affects your life the most. It’s local government that arranges for your basic services, such as water and sewer, trash, and all the utilities.

In a few short months Maurice "Mo" White and Stacie Wilke-McCulloch will go to the polls for a second time to determine who will take over the seat for the Board of Supervisors position in Carson City for Ward 2.

Carson City is now accepting Letters of Intent to Apply for our Five-Year, Non-Competitive Community Support Services Grant (CSSG).

Non-profit organizations and government agencies are qualified to fill out the Letter of Intent. Projects or programs must be for Carson City residence.
