Five Questions for Carson City Board of Supervisor Candidate Maurice 'Mo' White
In a few short months Maurice "Mo" White and Stacie Wilke-McCulloch will go to the polls for a second time to determine who will take over the seat for the Board of Supervisors position in Carson City for Ward 2.
Here are White's answers as a part of the Carson Now Five Questions series.
1) What is your history in Carson City?
Except for High School in Douglas Co. and Trade School in Phoenix, Carson City has been home for Maurice. He raised his children here. Maurice’s nearly 40 year career as a medium/heavy duty diesel mechanic in both the private and public sectors required varying levels of education, training, and responsibility from entry level to department manager. Maurice’s career found him working in the on & off road transportation, agrarian and construction fields. He also worked as a gardener, laborer, as an outside sales person, and in the restaurant industry. Maurice capped his career as the department manager responsible for all aspects of supplying engines for Co-generation power plants used across North and Central America as well as Asia.
2) Why do you want to be a supervisor?
Our Board of Supervisors needs to be a diverse group. I bring a viewpoint not currently on the Board of Supervisors. Our current board members have primarily administrative backgrounds with narrow fields of experience. Aside from my managerial experience I have extensive "in field" experience. My background gives me the advantage of having worked in a broad range of the project fields our City operates. To truly understand the projects city staff bring forward we need the "in the trenches" experience I provide. I am the only candidate with the tools to diversify our Board of Supervisors.
I have studied Carson City operations for over 10 years. I know the background on most of the issues facing our City today and in the future. I am ready to go to work on day one. I have the time and energy to work full time for all the residents and businesses of Carson City.
3) What is your favorite thing about Carson City (i.e. What does Carson do "right"?)
With Carson City being my home town it is hard to identify just one favorite thing about Carson City. Close proximity to our vast public lands certainly plays a role in the attractiveness of Carson City. Of course our laid back friendly residents are an asset not replicated in bigger towns. Carson City is my home, I stay here because I want to be here.
4) What would you like to see changed or improved in Carson City?
(See below)
5) What is the most important issue facing Carson City right now?
Questions 4 and 5 have the same answer. What must be a priority for Carson City are the health and safety items our residents, businesses and visitors expect our government to provide. We get to this priority by finalizing our Asset Management Program. Most of the asset assessment work is done. It is time to now prioritize and fund the needs of our massive current and future asset needs.
