Plan now for wine tasting fundraiser hosted by the Carson City Band Association

The Carson City Band Association, Inc. is proud to host its 12th Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser. All proceeds raised at this event will benefit the Carson High School Band programs. Your support helps these vital programs remain strong for our future musicians.

Students in these programs gain more than a finer appreciation of music. They also learn teamwork, discipline, confidence and leadership. This years' Wine Tasting will be held Saturday, April 25, at the Empire Ranch Golf Club on Fairway off Highway 50 East beginning at 5 p.m.

Carson City fire and rescue called to accident in westbound lane Highway 50 Spooner

UPDATE: One person was taken to the hospital following the accident Friday just before 5 p.m. on Highway 50 at Spooner. Their condition is unknown at this time.

Westbound traffic on Highway 50 on Spooner will be delayed as Carson City fire and ambulance respond to a vehicle rollover. The injury accident was reported at 4:50 p.m., with initial reports of a VW that had flipped with a victim possibly trapped in the vehicle.

Drought News: California Governor Brown directs first ever mandatory water restrictions

Following the lowest snowpack ever recorded and with no end to the drought in sight, California Gov. Jerry Brown announced actions on Wednesday he says will save water, increase enforcement to stop wasteful water use, streamline the state's drought response and invest in new technologies that will make California more drought resilient.

Senator Square: Mural contest winner paints 'Road to Success'

The Greater Nevada Credit Union branch at CHS recently sponsored a Mural Contest open to all Carson High Students. All entries were judged and the 1st place winner was Athena Favero, who received a $200 Amazon Gift Card. Second place and a $100 Amazon Gift Card went to Michael Rose. As part of the contest, Athena painted her winning design "A Senator’s Road To Success” on the hallway wall outside the GNCU branch at CHS. Students and staff are encouraged to come by and see her winning mural at Carson High School. Congratulations to our winners, and thanks to all the students who entered.
 

Signups underway for Honor Flight Nevada Kilroy Klassic Golf Tournament

The Charity Golf Tournament of the Spring is almost here. The second Kilroy Klassic Holes for Heroes fundraising tournament for Honor Flight Nevada will be on Saturday, April 25, 2015 with an 8:30am shotgun start at Silver Oak Golf Center in Carson City.

The tournament is an adjusted handicap 4 person scramble format that offers fun for golfers of any skill level.

Every year on March 17, the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across the globe observe St. Patrick’s Day. What began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green. Carson City definitely gets in on the game with festivities all over town. Corned beef and cabbage, green beer, and live music abound. For the last few years, Elaine and I have left Carson City for a short period of time during the month of February to temporarily escape our Western Nevada normally long and cold winter weather.
In those past years, it was a welcomed change from the ice, snow and cold of this general area to the warmth and lushness of the desert southwest.

Such beautiful weather this week. True to Nevada luck, the chill returns in time for the weekend. Keep your fingers crossed that the storm front brings some precipitation our way. One place it’s seasonally appropriate is the Nevada Artist Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. They will be hosting an artists’ reception for their new Winter Art Show Saturday evening.

Carson City job fair to be biggest yet with 55 employers signed on

Shaping up to be the largest job fair ever in Carson City, 55 area employers and 15 employment and educational agencies have signed on for Friday’s event at the Carson City Community Center.

The Feb. 27 fair, hosted by Carson City Health and Human Services in partnership with the Carson City Chamber of Commerce runs from 2 to 4:30 p.m. The fair will offer an early 1:30 p.m. admission for all veterans.

Two jailed for felony heroin trafficking following Carson City SET operation

The Carson City Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Team arrested two men late Saturday on felony drug trafficking and conspiracy charges with 14.5 grams of heroin recovered, plus marijuana and $1,400 cash, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

5th Annual CHS Safe and Sober 5k Run/Walk a Success

The 5th annual CHS Safe and Sober 5k Run/Walk was a tremendous success with turn-out of 113 participants. The weather cleared up this morning and with just a bit of wind at race time, we couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather, maybe even a sunburn.

The hilarious comedy hypnosis show is an adults only, outrageous, “naughty” comedy hypnosis show where audience members can volunteer to get hypnotized by Master Hypnotist Chris Cady and become the stars of the show. The volunteers then engage in some of the most outrageous antics ever seen on stage by everyday people.

Capital’s visitors bureau: Vote for Carson City

With one week left in USA Today’s competition for best capital city in the nation, the Carson City Visitors Bureau is urging Nevadans to continue to cast their votes.
In the weeks since the contest was announced online, Carson City has bounced between first, second and third places. However, it is now holding steady in the top position.
