Watch it Live: Carson City Board of Supervisors

The Carson City Board of Supervisors meet today beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street. Go here for the agenda and here to watch it live.

Deep Thoughts, Cheap Thoughts and Bonbons

The New Year has begun, and quite surprisingly the past year has gone by extremely fast. Unsurprisingly, rarely did anything surprise me during my first year as a Supervisor. Granted there are moments when one believes he/she is making the right and prudent decision, but I did learn that regardless of how one votes, there will always be consequences.

What is most popular in the public opinion could and often does influence and create pressure for city staff to revitalize their position on the issues of the day, and then they may or may not make an agenda item for that subject matter.

The meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street.

Comments sought on proposed Carson City disc golf course complex

For more than 20 years, disc golf courses have been sprouting up in communities throughout country. At Lake Tahoe, the skilled yet laid back sport that requires keen eyes, solid aim and proper throwing technique is all the rage with well-attended competitive tournaments held at several courses every summer and fall.

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department now hopes residents will throw their support and get into the game by proposing two 18 hole tournament courses and one 9-hole course set on 129 acres off of Flint Drive.

The Carson City Raiders Booster Club's annual fundraiser and auction is this coming Sunday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Carson Lanes Eleventh Frame Lounge, 4600 Snyder Avenue.

Letter: Carson City’s Sidewalk to Nowhere

With all the deferred infrastructure maintenance in our city, you would expect key projects to receive priority funding. Not so with the relatively new sidewalk in front of city public works facilities on the south side of Butti Way between Fairview and Airport.

This sidewalk serves virtually no one in a given day, probably cost taxpayers upwards of $200,000, and diverted funds from repairing crumbling sidewalks that serve many people.

Weworski leads group of 33 winners in Web.com qualifier at Dayton Valley Golf Club

DAYTON, Nev. — Tyler Weworski of Carlsbad, Calif., fired a 4-under 68 in the final round to finish low qualifier by five shots at 14-under par 274 in the final round of Stage One Web.com Qualifying at Dayton Valley Golf Club.

Tony Finau of Lehi, Utah shot even par 72 to finish second at 9-under. John Catlin of Gold River, Calif., and Chris Gilman of Yorba Linda, Calif., finished in a tie for third at 8-under 280. Former Nevada Wolf Pack golfer Scott Smith also qualifies in 22nd spot at 1-over 289.

Tyler Weworski retains lead in tour qualifier at Dayton Valley

Here are the third round highlights of Stage One Web.com Tour Qualifying at Dayton Valley Golf Club, Dayton, Nev.

Tough conditions for start of qualifier at Dayton Valley

Dayton, Nev. — Cool fall temperatures and a gusty northeast wind played havoc with scoring in the first round of the Stage One Web.com Qualifying Tournament at Dayton Valley Golf Club. A combination of the wind blowing from the opposite direction from normal, fast and hard greens and difficult pin placements lead to the high scores.

Dusty Fielding turned in the best performance of the day with a 3-under 69. Fielding from Washington, Utah was the low qualifier in last year's PGA Tour qualifying at Dayton.

Carson City neighbors by the thousands gathered Tuesday evening at Mills Park for the 11th annual National Night Out.

The themes for the evening were community and neighborhood partnership and outreach. Judging by attendance, it was one of the largest gatherings thus far for the annual summer event, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

"The turnout is one of the biggest I've seen," said DARE officer Lisa Davis, a coordinator of the event. "It says a lot about our citizens who have come together for a cause we all want: A safe and healthy community."
