Happy Friday Carson City! It's going to be another grey, cold day which looks like it's going to continue for at least a week. However, that's not going to stop Carson City from having fun! On the docket today we have a bike and music festival, open mic night, fundraisers, Celtic music, and more!

Carson City Soroptimist will present grant awards to two women, and honor the achievements of local high school seniors, on Wednesday, May 22, noon to 1 p.m. at Glen Eagles. The meeting is open to the public, with prior reservations required.

Cowboys Liquor in Carson City has partnered with Tito's Hand Made Vodka for a tasting event fundraiser this Friday to raise money for the MPS Society, which supports families and provides research to find a cure for the hereditary disease.

Carson City Girl Scout Troop 105 is collecting new, used, unwearable, and out grown shoes. Shoes can be dropped of at Bordewich, Seeliger, Fremont, and Empire Elementary Schools until May 31.

Silver Stage elementary and middle schools in Silver Springs, Nev., will host a big Zulily sale Saturday, June 1 beginning at 8 a.m. to earn money for school needs.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will hold a Tip-A-Cop fundraiser event to support Special Olympics on Tuesday May 28, 2019 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cocomoes restaurant as part of the signature Tip-A-Cop event benefitting Special Olympics in Nevada. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has volunteered to collect tips and help serve restaurant guests.

Happy Mother's Day Carson City! It's going to be a hot one today with a high of 82 and a low of 47. Enjoy the first full day of summer with a cold beer and live music at the 2019 Capital City Brewfest. Tickets are now on sale for this year’s Capital City Brewfest taking place Saturday, June 22nd, from 3 – 8 pm in Downtown Carson City.

Nearly two dozen breweries and several food trucks will line the newly redesigned Curry Street. Plus, there will be live music in McFadden Plaza. You won’t want to miss hearing The Belle Sounds, an indie pop-rock band from Austin Texas. The five-member band is sure to entertain you with its three part harmonies, soaring melodies and lush sonic sounds.

The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

The capital city will celebrate Tinseltown, classic cinema and raise money for Carson City school art programs at the 5th annual Hollywood Gala on Saturday, May 18 with the theme "A Star is Born" hosted by Carson City Classic Cinema Club.

April was an action packed month as several Carson High School clubs put on The Friendship Ball, A Night Under the Big Top Father Daughter Ball, and The Greatest Show on Earth 2019 Prom. Even more amazing than the dances are the students behind the scenes who, with the guidance of Leadership Adviser Ann Britt and FBLA Adviser Angila Golik, transformed the CHS Big Gym so that all visitors, young and old alike, would think they had walked into a beautiful dream.

What a week it was Carson City, and it isn't even over yet. Heading into Friday, May 3, 2019, we're looking at continued sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s. There's a host of activities Friday and, looking ahead, a bevy of fun Saturday including a Mother's Day craft fair at the Carson City Community Center, a Star Wars themed bicycle safety day, a wine, cheese and dessert ride aboard the V&T, an early opening of the downtown farmer's market, the May Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, a memorial walk, presentations, comedy, live music and more. The Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada is set to host one of their largest fundraisers of the year this Saturday, May 4, for its 11th year. Kentucky Derby Days 2019 will kick off at the Martin Hotel and Basque Restaurant, located at 308 N. Curry Street, at 2:30 p.m. and will run until 6 p.m.

All proceeds of the event will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, located in Carson City.

In this week's edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with Stephanie Arrigotti, director and producer of Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company to talk about the upcoming performance of the Tony Award-winning romantic comedy "Crazy for You" coming this May to Carson City.

Hello dear friends in the Carson City area. Our friend, David Mickelson, is pretty close to getting his kidney transplant. In fact, we're excited to announce that he is scheduled to have his kidney transplant on May 31!

We still need to do a lot of fundraising, so we plan to have a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, May 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Espolon's Grill in Mound House. The tickets are $12 each and all the proceeds go to David to cover some of his expenses for his transplant. Your ticket will give you spaghetti, meatballs, salad and garlic bread. Headed into Saturday, April 27, 2019 we're looking at another picture-perfect spring weather day and cool overnight temperatures. There's lots of activities ahead, including a colorful fun run at Mills Park, a free paper and document recycling event hosted by Debug Computer, a prescription drug roundup, the Silver State's own celebration of the Aloha State, a Carson High School speech team fundraiser at Flavors of India, art showings and sales and a fundraiser at Flat Earth Pizza for a wonderful Carson City woman who is in the throes of cancer. Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint in Carson City will hold its kickoff Sassabration fundraiser event "Brunch and Bingo with Bea," a tribute to the late comedy actress, singer and activist Bea Arthur on May 12.

A fundraiser for a Carson City mother who is currently battling stage 4 breast, bone and liver cancer is set for this Saturday, April 27 at Flat Earth Pizza.

The fundraiser for Mila Mangone of Carson City is from opening to closing, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the pizza restaurant, located at 2010 E William Street. Portions of the proceeds collected at the fundraiser will help Mila's treatment plan.
