56th annual Carson Nugget Thanksgiving feeds hundreds

A first class Carson City Thanksgiving feast with all the fixins' was put on the table Thursday by the Carson Nugget, a tradition and promise it has made to the community for 56 years.

Families by the scores began entering the Carson Nugget convention center at 11 a.m. sharp for the traditional free event, which began three days in advance with food preparation. More than 1,000 guests had been anticipated to show for the annual community gathering.

Nevada Day Parade through Carson City

The Nevada Day Parade in downtown Carson City drew tens of thousands to Carson Street today to watch and celebrate the Silver State's statehood.
Parade-goers were treated this morning with an air show above the Carson City skies, including the traditional F18 Hornet fly-over.

Nevada celebrates its statehood in annual flight of fancy down Carson Street

Nevada Day kicks off this morning with annual the Nevada Day Parade, with the theme being "100 Years of Aviation" to go along with the Silver State’s admission to the Union in 1864.

Retired Lt. Col. Dick Rutan of the U.S. Air Force serves as Grand Marshal for today's celebration. He was picked to coincide with the theme, which marks a history-making flight of daredevil pilot William Ivy Baldwin west of Carson City, where he soared to 4,675 feet, the highest ever at that time.

Tahoe Dance Band performs at the Grand Hall on Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. The 17-piece band plays big band and swing with fox trots, waltzes, tangos, and polkas. Tickets are $15/$12/$5.

Kit Carson Toastmasters Humorous Speech Contest

Kit Carson Toastmasters will hold a humorous speech contest amongst members on Tuesday September 7th. The event will be conducted at Grandma Hattie’s Restaurant, 2811 South Carson Street, Carson City, beginning at 6:30am. This is a free event and the public is welcome to attend. The winner will be chosen from Kit Carson Toastmasters members and will go on to the Area 22 contest in Carson City on September 18th. Fred Daniels will be the contest chair and Tim Mueller will be the chief judge.

Brewery Arts Center Membership Kickoff Concert in Carson City

The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City will soon announce a new membership plan. To kick it off the BAC will host a free concert on Friday, May 14 featuring highly acclaimed Travis Brass, the chamber ensemble of the United States Airforce Band of the Golden West.
