The Carson City Library will be hosting a virtual story time for PRE-K (children not yet in elementary school) and families on Oct. 15 at 11:30 a.m.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety (DPS), State Fire Marshal Division, has selected the fourth annual State of Nevada Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest winners.

Voya Financial, Inc., a leading provider of retirement plans for educators, announced Monday that Adrienne Wiggins, a teacher at Empire Elementary School in Carson City, has received a $2,000 grant as part of the company’s 2020 Unsung Heroes awards competition.

Carson City Kiwanis is hosting its seventh annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day on Saturday with several activities for all to enjoy. The Carson City School District’s Board of Trustees is pleased to sponsor the 19th Annual American Citizen Essay Contest. Completed essays are due to the Carson City School District at 1402 West King Street no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020.

One of her favorite quotes is from French dramatist Jean Marie Lucien Pierre Anouilh, who said, “Things are beautiful if you love them,” and Hannah Etchison, Carson High’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program Coordinator, loves people, loves Carson City, and said, “I wanted to help in the community that raised me.”

The Carson City School District reported three additional positive COVID-19 cases. Two of the persons work in the transportation department with a connection to the previously reported case. The last day of exposure was the same as the first reported case.

The Brewery Arts Center will deliver live music directly to the citizens of Carson City while practicing social distancing once again this week.

Miles Construction Company has generously donated the use of a Flatbed Truck and with financial support from The Change Companies, the Nauman Foundation, and Carson Tahoe Hospital, all summer the BAC has placed musicians and bands on the flatbed and driven them through the streets and neighborhoods of Carson City and now the fun goes into September.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The American Cancer Society is hosting a poker run Saturday at Mills Park, and a free lacrosse clinic for kids ages 6-12 will be held at John L. Harvey Field. The Nevada Humane Society is virtually hosting its annual “Adopt a Duck” fundraiser for interested participants. First-day jitters are not just for students. The Carson City School District was pleased to announce the appointment of seven new principals and district administrators (alphabetically by school) for the 2020-2021 school year at its school board meeting Tuesday evening.

He is a senior at Carson High School, and his last year is, to say the least, unconventional. Adults have had their say, so how about a chat with this popular young man as he sports a 1980s hairstyle called a mullet in which the hair is short on the sides and long at the front and back.

The 2020 Jazz & Beyond Music and Art Festival will include the second annual Carson City Open Studios Tour with multiple locations. Hosted by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club, the Brewery Arts Center is holding a drive-in movie showing of the 1950s classic “Shane” on Saturday. The Northern Nevada Dream Center in partnership with Carson City Foursquare Church at Mark Twain Elementary School are hosting a "Back To School Drive-thru Bash" for all elementary school students needing school supplies and whose families are unable to afford purchasing those items themselves.

This Saturday, Aug. 1 the Flatbed Concert Series will be (slowly) rollilng through the Empire Elementary area with the groovy "Drinking with Clowns."

The Assembly approved an omnibus budget bill a second time Sunday morning, this time with an amendment allocating tens of millions of dollars in federal coronavirus relief funding toward boosting alternative education strategies during the pandemic, winning over several Republican lawmakers who opposed the proposal 15 hours earlier.

UPDATE: Firefighters have been able to get a handle on the brush fire. The cause is under investigation.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Monday shortly before 10 p.m. to a report of a brush fire burning in a field near Fremont Elementary School.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking for assistance in identifying subjects involved in a destruction of property report.

Patt Quinn-Davis, Carson High School Language Arts teacher and adviser of the school newspaper and Carneta yearbook, is retiring. For Quinn-Davis, the publications staff became a part of her family every year and even more so when students stayed with the program throughout their high school careers.
