Winners of the 2020 Nevada DPS, State Fire Marshal Division Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest Announced
The Nevada Department of Public Safety (DPS), State Fire Marshal Division, has selected the fourth annual State of Nevada Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest winners.
National Fire Prevention Week is October 4 – 10, 2020. According to the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA), cooking is the number one cause of home fires and home fire injuries. Unattended cooking is the leading cause of fires in the kitchen. This year’s National Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen!TM,” works to educate everyone about the simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe in the kitchen.
K-12th grade students statewide submitted their artwork based on the campaign theme. Posters of the selected winners will be featured on billboards across Nevada throughout October. Artwork may also be used in publications, exhibits, displays, and websites to promote fire safety and education.
“We’d like to thank all of the students, educators, and parents for their involvement in helping to promote such an important safety message,” said State Fire Marshal Mike Dzyak. “This year’s campaign promotes fire safety in the kitchen. Fires in the kitchen are one of the leading causes of home fires, and fire prevention education is key to stopping these incidents from occurring. Congratulations to the winners and all of the students who participated.”
