Happy Wednesday, Carson City. If you’ve got anything outside that needs doing, the smart money would be on tackling that today. There is a hefty storm brewing and this is the last dry day we’ll see for a little while.

Tommy Linnett, executive chef at The Union Carson, presented the next class in the series, Celebrity Chef Cooking Classes – A Healthy Lifestyles Program, at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, Wednesday.

I really can’t keep up with the changing weather reports around here. I think we are expecting snow, so you’ll want to be ready for anything. Our County Clerk’s office is holding an open house to show off the new voting machines we’ll be using for this year’s elections.

There is absolutely a little bit of everything this weekend. There’s somewhere to volunteer, somewhere to eat some fundraising pancakes, join in an Asian New Year Lion Dance Parade, Beer Crawl in downtown Carson City, and get your Zumba on. I think the eclectic mix of happenings is one of my favorite things about our corner of the world. Whether it’s the International Film Festival, the Vagina Monologues, or telescope viewing at the WNC Observatory: you can’t tell me there is nothing to do.

CARSON CITY — As settlers found their way west in the 1800s, so, too, did much of the fashion of the time, including the beautiful and elaborate gowns of the Victorian era. Modern-day observers see the clothing and can’t help but wonder ”Why did they dress like that?”

Winterfest 2018 is here, and the theme is “Into the Depps of Winterfest"— as in Johnny Depp — with a week stuffed full of fun activities. Depp says, “I think the thing to do is to enjoy the ride while you’re on it” and this is what Carson High School students intend to do all week long.

A new club, and possibly a lifelong career for senior Lyric Untereiner, is starting at Carson High School.

Ready, set, crawl. The Brew Crew’s monthly pub crawl kicks off from the Laxalt Plaza next to the Nugget and includes up several downtown area taverns and restaurants. If your new year’s resolution includes volunteering, the Muscle Powered Trash Mob is a quick, but mighty, helping hand. Learn about the future of the Stewart Indian School Historic Site during an encore lecture at the Nevada State Museum. Flashback to Beatle-mania at the Brewery Arts Center or karaoke at Battleborn Social are just some of your nightlife options.

Last night, I had a moment to get quiet with myself and do some research. This research led me down the path of learning three types of confidence from a relationship expert named Matthew Hussey. Hussey has been all over the world teaching relationship psychology.

See what the talented students in the Symphony Youth Strings program have been up to at tonight’s "Around the World in Music" concert at the Community Center. Christmas tree permits in the Lake Tahoe Basin are sold out as of Nov. 24, 2017. On Nov. 13, 2,250 permits were issued on a first-come, first-served basis. No additional permits will be authorized at Tahoe this season, however permits are available in the Carson Ranger District.

The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and the Eldorado National Forest will begin the sale of Christmas tree permits on Monday, Nov. 13. Permit holders may choose from a variety of pine, fir or cedar trees up to six inches in diameter at the base in designated cutting areas.

Break a leg to the cast of ‘Nightfall with Edgar Allen Poe.’ The Proscenium Players’ newest production opens tonight in the Brewery Arts Center’s Black Box Theater.
