Bicycle event to benefit Carson City Schools Foundation, commemorate Star Wars Day
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 04/15/2019 - 8:57amSet for Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, at Fritsch Elementary School, the Bicycle Fun and Safety Day will benefit the Carson City Schools Foundation. Hosted by the Carson City School District, the Nevada Department of Transportation, Safe Routes to School, local bike clubs and shops, the inaugural event will serve as a proving ground to acquaint experienced and less experienced bike riders with their eco-friendly transport mechanisms.

In an era where students are more comfortable communicating behind a screen rather than face-to-face, teaching Physical Education can be more than challenging at times. It seems that each year there are fewer students who enjoy physical activity. This year has been no different.
Carson City Parks and Rec hosts May 'Hike into History' walk along the Carson River

This guided hike will be held on Saturday, May 25, beginning at 10 a.m. Go here to sign up.

Nevada State Parks to host Donovan Mill history hike from Dayton to Silver City
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 04/02/2019 - 10:29amNevada State Park staff will host an April 13 guided hike from the Rock Point Mill at Dayton State Park to the historic Donovan Mill in Silver City, Nev.
The Rock Point Mill was one of the earliest large mills in Nevada built to crush ore from the Comstock mines. The mill was destroyed by fires in 1882 and 1909, and floods also caused damage. Although the mill was rebuilt, demand lessened and it was dismantled and moved to the Donovan Mill site in Silver City in the 1920s.

Participants must find as much trash as they can, but prizes will also be awarded to most interesting find, and largest item.

Join us on this 3-mile round-trip snowshoe trek around Spooner Lake that will take us through pine and aspen forests as we circle around the lake. Large flocks of Chickadees are often seen. Estimated time of activity is 5 hours.
Meet at Hwy 50 Park-and-Ride just west of Hwy 50/US395 interchange. We will carpool to Spooner Lake. Parking inside the park at Spooner Lake requires a $10.00 per vehicle entrance fee (exact cash amount required), or annual or senior park pass. By carpooling, the costs are reduced.
