Pie to the Rescue 2015

Students from the awarding winning Carson High School Culinary Arts program will be joining some of Northern Nevada’s best chefs in baking pies to help feed those in need this holiday season.
Donors sought for Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner fundraiser for Greenhouse Project
Submitted by editor on Wed, 10/07/2015 - 10:13amIt’s that time of year again, when sponsors are sought to support the Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner, hosted by Cafe at Adele’s in Carson City and now in its sixth year.
A major donor, (composed of one donor or many) for the amount of $5,000 is still needed. The $5,000 match is collected through donations both large and small, by dinner patrons.

Congratulations to the following students who have been nominated by their senior classmates as queen and king candidates: Tess Corda, Paris Regan, Kassidy Cox, Delaney Fine, Lindy Lehman, Haley Gray, Ikela Lewis, Todd Lani, Asa Carter, Conner Pradere, Joe Nelson, and Eddie Duarte.

However, our school year started with much sadness as our high school community lost one of our students in a tragic accident at Lake Tahoe.

Unleash your inner artist at Comma Coffee’s ‘Paint, Drink, and Be Merry’ or at the Senior Center with a special watercolor painting fundraiser. Concert at the Mansion August 14 to benefit Carson High School Culinary Arts Program

The program begins at 4:30 p.m. with a Social Hour and a Cash Bar. Tickets are $30 for concert and $7 for dinner.
Dinner features delicious sirloin burgers, jumbo hot dogs, and a buffet of homemade salads and deserts.
Concert begins at 6 p.m. at the Governor’s Mansion, 606 Mountain Street.

It’s Wednesday in our fair capital city and that means jazz and blues: jazz jam tonight at Sassafras and lunchtime blues and Americana at Comma Coffee. If you’re feeling a little bit country, than head over to Carson Lanes for some line dance instruction in the Eleventh Frame Lounge. For those of you in Dayton, may I suggest you see what the talented students at Dayton High are up to: their annual Night of the Arts is open to the community and showcases art, theater, music, and culinary savvy.

Senator Square: Mural contest winner paints 'Road to Success'
Submitted by editor on Sun, 03/29/2015 - 10:52amThe Greater Nevada Credit Union branch at CHS recently sponsored a Mural Contest open to all Carson High Students. All entries were judged and the 1st place winner was Athena Favero, who received a $200 Amazon Gift Card. Second place and a $100 Amazon Gift Card went to Michael Rose. As part of the contest, Athena painted her winning design "A Senator’s Road To Success” on the hallway wall outside the GNCU branch at CHS. Students and staff are encouraged to come by and see her winning mural at Carson High School. Congratulations to our winners, and thanks to all the students who entered.
Senator Square: Spring Fling Week underway at CHS

Carson High Culinary Arts wins Another State Championship
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sun, 03/01/2015 - 4:54pmCarson High School Culinary Arts Pro Start Team again won the Nevada State Pro Start Culinary Arts Competition. This is Carson High's 11th Consecutive State Title.
Carson High sent 2 teams to the state competition in Las Vegas. Each team consisting of 5 team members. They had one hour and only 2 burners to complete a three course meal for the judges. The menu's were pre planned, cost analysis were done and recipes were created. The teams had to bring all the equipment and food to prepare the dishes.
After months of practice it came down to 1 hour to impress the judges.

Café at Adele's hosts fifth Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner Monday to benefit the Greenhouse Project

The event, hosted the first time as a fundrasier for The Greenhouse Project and a tribute dinner to Paul Abowd, restaurateur and Charlie’s father, has grown into a benefit for The Greenhouse Project on site at Carson High School.
The reception begins with hors d’oeuvres at 5 p.m., followed by dinner.
Chamber golf tournament raises money to send Carson culinary team to competition
Submitted by editor on Mon, 09/29/2014 - 9:08amThe Carson City Chamber held its fifth annual Chairman’s Golf Tournament at Silver Oak Golf on Friday to benefit Pro Start and Skills USA students at Carson High. Though the weather was cold, spirits were high and 39 golfers were able to raise $3,500 to send the culinary team to state competition.
The evening BBQ feast was prepared by a great group of kids that included BBQ ribs, sausages, chicken, mashed potatoes, salads, desserts, and more. Not your basic BBQ, by any means.
Carson High School teacher Penny Reynolds is recognized for Excellence in the Classroom

John is a long time resident of Carson City and contributes his efforts toward enhancing the lives of many through his culinary talents and selfless generosity. John offers his expertise to youth interested in the culinary arts and has been a supporter of many non-profit organizations with a healthy nutritional focus.

“We were in need of a kitchen to make lunches for children in our program and the Carson Nugget stepped right up to the plate and agreed to allow us to use their kitchen facilities,” said Stephanie Gardner, executive director, Food for Thought. “This is great because it will allow us to continue this much needed program during the summer months when school is not in session.”
Carson City Library Explore the World series focuses on Chile

In Chile, he studied theater at Viña del Mar. He came to the USA in 2010 and lives in Carson City, Nevada. Danilo is working in the culinary arts.

Gov. Sandoval Dines with Dayton Students and Community Leaders
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 05/19/2011 - 11:41amDayton High School’s Culinary Arts class, one of Lyon County School District’s many Career and Education classes, prepared and served an elegant luncheon for Governor Brian Sandoval and area officials and community leaders Wednesday.
Thanking the students, Governor Sandoval said, “I had an opportunity last week to have lunch with former President George W. Bush at the Bellagio in Vegas. This lunch is every bit as good as what is offered at the Bellagio. This was very professional; the service was impeccable. You should be proud. You all have bright futures ahead of you.”
