Hello fellow anglers. Just got back from Oregon a few weeks ago and the world’s getting a little crazy. It's now fall, and it feels like we missed out on most of summer, between COVID-19 and wildfires, we might have to start doing some praying to get back to some sense of normalcy. We encountered 7 wildfires on our journey.

A 31-year-old Silver springs man was arrested in the 3300 block of N. Carson Street for felony burglary and possession of burglary tools.

Restaurants were the hardest hit of the “essential” businesses allowed to remain open when the hospitality businesses — of which restaurants are a subset — were abruptly shuttered at almost a moment’s notice.

Carson City will be getting its very first Roberto's Taco Shop, a popular west coast Mexican cuisine restaurant with locations in northern and southern Nevada.

The 2020 pine nut harvest season kicks off on lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Both agencies are working together to ensure the public is safely harvesting pine nuts and aware of the regulations.

National Forest trails, trailheads, beaches and other day-use areas in the Lake Tahoe Basin have now reopened for day-use only as of Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. Camping and overnight stays will not be permitted, and campgrounds will remain closed. Resorts will reopen for day-use only. Emergency Fire Restrictions will remain in effect through Nov. 30. The Nevada Artist Association is proud to present the 2020 “Autumn Show” and the beautiful works of Featured Artists Karen Kreyeski and Maggie Stillwell.

Due to unprecedented and historic fire conditions throughout the state, the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region on Tuesday extended the temporary Forest Closure Order of all 18 National Forests in California, which began last week.

Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest system lands located in California on the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts will reopen to the public on Tuesday morning after a temporary emergency closure went into place on Sept. 10 due to an unprecedented and dangerous fire situation in the state of California.

The first USDA Business and Industry CARES Act loan, intended to protect America’s small farms and businesses amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, went to an aquaculture farm in Iowa and was brokered by Carson City-based Greater Commercial Lending (GCL). These CARES Act loans provide working capital to help rural businesses prevent, prepare for or respond to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Western Nevada College will host a memorial exhibit and informational presentation on the 9-11 attacks on Friday. Partnership Carson City will team up for a statewide suicide prevention virtual walk this Saturday. Bars and taverns across Washoe County as well as in the town of Pahrump in Nye County will soon be allowed to open following a surprise decision from the state’s COVID-19 Mitigation and Management Task Force on Thursday.

The U.S. Forest Service announced Wednesday that it is temporarily closing the remaining 10 national forests in California, including Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, Eldorado National Forest, Plumas National Forest and Tahoe National Forest.

As the fall season nears and days become shorter, the Nevada Division of State Parks is adjusting the hours of operation for the boat launch sites at both Sand Harbor and Cave Rock Lake Tahoe Nevada State Parks.

NV Energy is urging customers to conserve electricity today between 4 and 9 p.m. in order to help offset energy supply issues caused by record-breaking heat throughout the Western United States. Conservation is the best way to reduce strain on the local power grid.

Hello fellow anglers, welcome to Labor Day weekend. As we know from all of the smoke in the California and Nevada skies, we have to be fire aware, wherever your adventure takes you this weekend.

The Capital Branch of AAUW is having its annual Membership 'Brunch' this year on Saturday Sept. 12 via Zoom, instead of at the Governor's Mansion as in previous years, since that facility is closed due to the COVID-19 situation.

The Slink Fire burning south of Topaz Lake and two miles west of Coleville, Calif., reached 14,200 acres early Thursday and was 10 percent contained, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriffs deputies responded Wednesday morning to two spot fires in the area of Russell Way and Long Street.

The Mono County Sheriff's Office issued an evacuation order Monday evening for Coleville and Walker due to the Slink Fire and has closed Highway 395 from Topaz Lane to Eastside Lane south of Topaz Lake.

MINDEN — From August 31 to Sept. 11 the Douglas County Shooting Range will be closed for maintenance and safety enhancements.
