For 20 years, the organization Peace Over Violence has organized Denim Day, a rape prevention education campaign, during which community members, elected officials, businesses, and students are encouraged to make a social statement with their fashion choices on this day by wearing jeans as a visible means of protest against misconceptions that surround sexual assault.

Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 04/20/2019 - 11:14amThe first of two egg hunts at the Nevada Railroad Museum was a hit with the Easter hunters. Eggs filled with prizes, toys and stuffed animals were up for grabs during the hunt which lasted about one entire minute before the lawn was picked clean.
The Easter Bunny was on site for pictures, and inside the museum there will be children’s activities such as face painting, coloring stations, and more.
Festivities will continue throughout Saturday and then Sunday. The schedule is as follows:

Man convicted of felony child abuse, claims girlfriend’s baby was burned by a malevolent spirit

The man claimed that he awoke from a nap to a spirit holding him down and burning him, and later he realized the spirit had also burned his girlfriend’s baby who was under his care.

Pinwheels for Prevention cover Carson City Legislature, raising awareness to prevent child abuse
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 04/05/2019 - 11:31amApril is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Carson City has gone blue with the Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign, a national event hosted by Carson City’s Advocates to End Domestic Violence, and Prevent Child Abuse Nevada.
On Friday, Carson City residents joined together to plant pinwheels across the Nevada Legislature's lawn, in an effort to raise awareness about preventing child abuse.
“The pinwheel is an uplifting reminder of childhood and the bright futures all children deserve,” a spokesperson for the national event said. “We want to reinforce the notion that healthy child development serves as a foundation for both community and economic development.”
