New Art Gallery coming to the Old Bently Wool Building in Minden

Prism Photographics announces a major change to the current art gallery to become Carson Valley’s premier art gallery. The new Art Gallery@Prism, located inside the old Bently Wool Warehouse in Minden, will be featuring up to 30 regional artists from communities of Northern Nevada to the Sierra Nevada.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the South Carson Complete Streets Project groundbreaking ceremony, the International Film Festival held Friday and Saturday at the Carson City Community Center and Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada celebrate National Girl Scout Cookie weekend with door-to-door cookie sales. Carson City to break ground Feb. 29 on South Carson Complete Streets Project

The community is invited to celebrate the expansion of the Carson Street improvements at the South Carson Complete Streets Project groundbreaking ceremony. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020 at 10 a.m., at the former armory site located at 2361 South Carson Street, and will feature construction equipment for children of all ages to explore and climb on.

The Parks Foundation is saddened to learn of the passing earlier this week of Sandy Osheroff, the Foundation’s longtime Treasurer.

Parks Foundation president, David Johnson, announced on Friday that the Foundation’s Board of Directors, continuing the Foundation’s practice of recognizing outstanding contributions in furtherance of Carson City’s parks, recreational facilities and open space, designated Sandy Osheroff as the “2020 Volunteer of the Years” at their December meeting.

Carson City student picked as Society for Range Management delegate at upcoming forum

Carson High School Senior Cade Crookshanks, 17, has been selected by the Nevada Section of the Society for Range Management to participate in the High School Youth Forum, a SRM sponsored youth activity held jointly during the 73 Annual SRM meeting. The meeting will be held in Denver, Colo., Feb. 16-20, 2020.

Obituary: Robert Paul Pier

United States Marine Corps Captain (retired), Robert Paul Pier (Bob) left this life for eternity on Jan. 8, 2020 to be reunited with his Creator and his waiting wife, Ruth Jane Pier. Bob was born on August 10, 1931 in South Bend, Indiana as the youngest of nine children, Bob was 88 years old.

Annual Carson City Christmas Tree Lighting, Silver and Snowflakes Festival, happening tonight

The biggest holiday celebration in Carson City, the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights, is scheduled to bring holiday cheer to the masses on Friday, Dec. 6.

The Silver and Snowflakes Festival has been the official beginning of the holiday season for years, with the lighting of the great Christmas tree on Capitol grounds. Cucina Lupo, Carson City’s newest Italian restaurant, hosted its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday.

The owner, Mark Estee, is also the proprietor of several other local restaurants including Carson City’s The Union, Gardnerville’s Overland Restaurant and Pub, and Reno’s Liberty Food and Wine Exchange, as well as Chez Louie in the Nevada Museum of Art.

Going into Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 it is Veterans Day. Federal, state and local government offices and schools are closed to observe the holiday. Thank you U.S. Veterans for your service to our great country. Nevada Dept. Public Safety commissions 17 new peace officers at academy graduation

RENO — The Nevada Department of Public Safety commissioned the state's newest Peace Officers at the Academy 86 graduation ceremony held Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Galena High School Theater.

Of the 17 graduates, 11 will join the Nevada DPS, Parole and Probation Division and 6 will join the Nevada DPS, Highway Patrol Division. The new Peace Officers will be assigned statewide.
