Carson City woman admits to stealing purse, spending money with friend on booze and smokes

An unemployed Carson City woman faces a felony grand larceny charge after admitting to stealing a woman's purse from a local casino, splitting the cash inside of it with a friend, and then buying alcohol and cigarettes.

Roseann Owens, 48, is being held on $10,000 bond at Carson City Jail. According to the arrest report, at about 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, the woman was seen leaning on the glass doors at the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Musser Street. The woman appeared to be distressed and an officer asked her what was wrong.

Carson City mom concerned about car theft uses baby monitor to track thief, son arrested

A Carson City woman who was concerned about car burglaries in her neighborhood used a baby monitor device to track down the thief, only to learn that it was her own son who was allegedly stealing from a vehicle.

According to Capt. Clay Wall of the Carson City Sheriff's Office, there had been a spike in vehicle burglaries during the month of July and investigators learned there were similar patterns being used in the thefts.

Thousands attend National Night Out event in Carson City

Hundreds of families making up, perhaps, several thousand people, gathered Tuesday night at Mills Park in Carson City to attend the region's largest public safety event, the 27th annual National Night Out.

Fire damages home, trailer on South Curry in Carson City

Update: A home and trailer were heavily damaged by a fire on South Curry Street in Carson City today.

Residents Kathleen Stevens and her daughter Elizabeth Nix were able to escape without injury. Firefighters rescued their dog, Thor.

"The dog is my soulmate," Nix said. "I don't know what I would do without him."

Fire crews are still on the scene, and no cause has been determined yet. The fire broke out shortly after noon. The home is located next to the Ormsby House.

Two Care Flight choppers summoned to Carson City Airport after a reported accident

Two Care Flight helicopters were summoned to the Carson City Airport this afternoon on two separate medical events including a car accident involving a child.

The car accident in the Northgate Lane area of Carson City was reported at 1:37 this afternoon. In a separate call, at 1:38, an air ambulance was needed for an overdose patient, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

Reports are that a 10-year-old girl was injured in the car accident, Furlong said. The extent of the child's injuries are unknown, Furlong added.

Carson City authorities arrest four on drug charges, two for felony heroin possession

Carson City authorities have arrested four people on multiple drug charges, including two arrests for alleged felony heroin possession.
Authorities assigned to the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team had gleaned information on Thursday that several alleged known heroin users were hiding at a home in the 2800 block of Airport Road in Carson City.

Additional charges may be filed in Carson City burglary crime ring

More charges could soon be filed against a Carson City man believed to be involved in a burglary ring that spans over multiple Northern Nevada counties.
Bryan Allen Gaudette, 24, faces five additional felony counts of burglary and is being held in the Carson City Jail on $25,000 bond.
He is currently in custody for other items already recovered in the same case, authorities report.

Carson City D.A. kicks off effort to tackle elder abuse

Carson City District Attorney Neil Rombardo, in conjunction with the Carson City Sheriff's Office and other city agencies, kicked off an effort today to battle abuse of elderly and vulnerable citizens.

Speaking at the Carson City Senior Center, Rombardo related his own positive experiences with his grandmother as a motivation for the effort to make sure senior citizens in this community have access to help to escape abusive situations.

Dozens of burglary victims look for stolen goods at Carson City viewing

Victims by the dozens arrived at the Carson City Sheriff's Office this morning hoping to find what was stolen from them after authorities cracked a burglary ring earlier this month that is believed to have started a year ago.

Sifting through hundreds of items such as iPods, laptops, CDs, DVDs, guns, tools and guitars, many of the victims said they were hopeful they could place positive identifications on what had been taken from them.

Flash flood warning issued for Carson City; power line snaps

A flash flood warning issued for Carson City has expired but continues through 6:15 p.m. in central Douglas County, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. Rain and heavy winds have punched the region, with reports of power outages in east and west Carson City.

In addition, the westbound lane of Highway 50 going up to Spooner Summit is closed, with Nevada Highway Patrol diverting traffic. No word yet on the cause for the closure.

A power line snapped and a transformer is down in the area of Spear and Nevada streets near Division. Carson City fire crews and the Carson City Sheriff's Office closed portions of traffic in the area. The downed power lines did not arc and were not live on the ground, according to fire personnel on the scene.

Carson City authorities look for suspects involved in road rage incident

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies are looking for possibly two vehicles in a road rage dispute that happened earlier tonight in the area of Highway 395 and Fairview on-ramp.
Sheriff Ken Furlong said one of the vehicles has been stopped.
Initial feedback from those who reported the incident at around 7 tonight said that at least one person was heavily bleeding because of the dispute. Those reports, however, cannot be confirmed because the alleged person hasn't yet been found, Furlong said.

Property recovered in string of Carson City burglaries open for review

Hundreds of items recovered from a string of burglaries in the Carson City, Douglas County, Reno and Sparks areas will be on display for crime victims to review.
The display will be on Monday, July 26 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Carson City Sheriff's Office, 911 East Musser Street.

Gardnerville resident identified as the woman who died in the Carson City Jail

A Gardnerville woman has been identified by authorities as being the woman who died in the Carson City Jail on Sunday.
Kimberly Wood, 23, died Sunday morning for unknown reasons. An autopsy was performed today, Tuesday, with results not expected for several weeks, Carson City Sheriff's Office Undersheriff Steve Albertsen said.
Wood was found dead on Sunday morning in the Carson City jail after she had been arrested on Saturday night, on a warrant from Lyon County. 
Authorities had made contact with Wood and a man she was with during a domestic dispute that happened while driving.

Authorities arrest Carson City man on felony warrant and a woman for allegedly hiding him

A Carson City man found hiding in an apartment behind a refrigerator was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant charge and the woman he was with faces charges of harboring a fugitive.
Keith Watrous, 39, was arrested Saturday inside an apartment in the 2000 block of West College Parkway. He had a felony warrant for his arrest in connection to a battery with a deadly weapon, and a misdemeanor violation of suspended sentence. Bail was set at $13,000 for the fugitive warrant, plus he faces bail of $10,000 in Douglas and a $3,000 in Carson City Justice Court.

Carson City mom faces felony child abuse charges after ER finds meth in infant's system

A Carson City woman who told authorities she had smoked methamphetamine and then fell asleep next to her infant daughter faces felony child abuse charges after the baby tested positive for the drug.
Charlene Marie Benitez, 22, is being held at the Carson City Jail on $50,000 bond after being arrested early Saturday morning. Charges include felony child endangerment and abuse that caused the infant physical or mental harm. The condition of the infant is unknown at this time.
Subsequent portions of the investigation report appear to be withheld.

Gardnerville man steals four cases of beer for birthday party, arrested for shoplifting and meth possession

A Gardnerville man, who told authorities he was planning a birthday party but didn't have enough money for beer and so he decided to steal four cases of it, faces felony shoplifting and possession of methamphetamine charges after being arrested Wednesday.
Jay William Dunkelberg, 53, was detained by Safeway store personnel following a foot chase. He was subsequently interviewed by Carson City Sheriff's Office personnel where he confessed to shoplifting and meth possession, according to the arrest report. Bail is set at $5,000.

Over the line: Carson City woman arrested for allegedly throwing rocks at protesters

There was a disturbance near the Legislature Building Saturday afternoon in Carson City. A woman who was apparently angry at some political signs, allegedly threw rocks at three demonstrators.

The news that came across the scanner this July 3 afternoon was that there was a fight involving "protesters" in front of the Legislative Building. Given the political climate these days, it was worth following up.

Carson City men face multiple drug charges after meth and pills found

Two Carson City men, one who is reportedly a former police officer, face drug charges after methamphetamine and pills were discovered late Thursday night.

John Logan Christopher, 29, faces felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine for sale, possession of prescription drugs without a prescription, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail has been set at $11,264. Kameron Mariolo, 24, faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance. His bail has been set at $2,500.

Seven Carson City businesses fail sheriff's office alcohol compliance check

An alcohol compliance check in the capital city on Monday led to seven businesses that failed to comply with the law concerning sales, the Carson City Sheriff's Office is reporting.

Those businesses were: Ormsby Club Bar at 600 S. Curry St., Dotty's Casino at 3771 South Carson St., Chevron at 1102 North Carson Street, Rand Convenience Story at 1800 Highway 50 East, AM/PM Arco at 4190 South Carson St., and Casino Fandango at 3800 South Carson St., and Bodines at 5650 South Carson St.

Man confesses taking computer equipment from Carson City Parks and Rec office

A Carson City man faces felony burglary and possession of stolen property charges after allegedly taking an office computer scanner disc from the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department office at 851 East William Street on Sunday.
Timothy Souza Whitmer, 18, confessed to the burglary on Monday, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report. He is being held on $25,000 bail. A second person in the burglary has not been identified, according to the arrest report.

Carson City man faces felony false imprisonment, burglary and conspiracy charges

A Carson City man faces multiple felony charges after he was arrested without incident on June 18, following crimes allegedly committed on June 16.
Nyle Anthony Silva, 23, is being held on felony burglary, false imprisonment, and conspiracy charges; and misdemeanor battery and violation of bail conditions charges. Bail has been set at $79,000.

According to the arrest report, on June 18 at about 4 a.m. officers responded to the area of David Street and Stewart Avenue attempting to locate Silva, who was wanted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Douglas County authorities investigate stabbing; two injured in domestic dispute

Two people were injured today after a domestic dispute that happened in the Johnson Lane area, Douglas County authorities said in a press statement. In the dispute a man was stabbed in the back and found traveling in a car with a female where they wound up at a Carson City residence. The man was taken by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center. The other victim in the dispute was taken to Carson Tahoe Hospital.

Two unemployed Carson City men face felony burglary charges after allegedly breaking into the Mills Park Pavillion and taking cell phones and a clock.
Christopher Darrell Stehlin, 20, and Darren Hutchins, 19, are being held in Carson City jail on $50,000 bail each. The men were arrested Friday afternoon.

Carson City man faces lewdness and statutory sexual seduction charges

An 18-year-old Carson City man faces criminal charges of lewdness with a minor and statutory sexual seduction.
Nathan Andrew Bailey, 18, is being held on $52,500 bail after being arrested on June 16. Charges include lewdness with a minor under 14 years of age and statutory sexual seduction. According to a Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, a 12-year-old girl told authorities that she had been having sexual relations with him for several months.

At least one dead in three-vehicle accident near Carson City

Two people are dead in a three-vehicle head-on accident that happened this morning at Highway 50 and the V&T Railroad Bridge in Mound House, according to a Nevada Highway Patrol dispatcher.

A Carson City man was arrested for failing to register as a tier 2 sex offender.
Leon Gene Rutherford, 30, who's address on the arrest report was listed as being in the 700 block of Silver Oak Drive in Carson City, faces the felony charge. His bail has been set at $2,500.

According to a Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies responded to a domestic dispute between a man and woman at an apartment on Silver Oaks Drive at 9:31 p.m. on June 11.

Arizona man extradited to Carson City; charged with threats of terrorism to Nevada governor

An Arizona man was extradited to Carson City jail this morning on a warrant that alleges he made threats of terrorism to Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons.
Douglas Raymond Hoffman, 63 of Goodyear, Ariz., arrived in Carson City about about 2 this morning. He faces charges of making threats or conveying false information concerning acts of terrorism, weapons of mass destruction with lethal agents or toxins.
Hoffman is being held without bail.

Carson City detectives arrest Yerington man for meth, false ID in beer sting

A Yerington man faces multiple charges including felony drug possession after Carson City authorities arrested him in a sting operation involving the sale of alcohol to minors.
Nicholas Salas, 43, was arrested after a search found methamphetamine, a meth pipe and false identification.
According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, detectives were assigned on May 31 to work outside the AMPM in the 2700 block of Highway 50 East on a shoulder tap detail, which involves using government grant-funded undercover decoys.
